Man Accused of Trying to Run Down Harris
03:56 PM EST - October 27, 2004

The Associated Press

SARASOTA, Fla.
A man who told police he was "exercising my political expression" was arrested Wednesday on charges he nearly ran down Rep. Katherine Harris and a group of her supporters with his car.

Witnesses told police a silver Cadillac sped through an intersection and hurtled onto a sidewalk, heading straight toward Harris before swerving at the last minute and driving off.

The Republican congresswoman told police she froze with fear as the vehicle sped toward her Tuesday evening, authorities said.

1. "I was exercising my political expression," Seltzer told police
Wowzers. I need to buff up on the 1st Amendment. I had no idea.

2. I think it is a Karl Rove stunt
to whip up sympathy for "poor Kathleen" after her indiscretions were caught on C-Span.

Keep a close eye on "Jose Martinez." My guess is he disappears from sight and never serves any jail time. My guess is he is a Republican operative paid to engage in this stunt.

5. Barry Seltzer, not Jose Martinez.

Not to be confused with U.S. Magistrate Barry Seltzer of Fort Lauderdale.

And not to be confused with Republican attorney-now-US-District-Judge Jose Martinez, who took one of the judgeships that Seltzer applied for.
