6 Cent stamp price increase?
From a post on the John Kerry forum: http://forum.johnkerry.com/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=19&t=104677

There were two different, and very amazing, things that my mother heard while she was watching C-SPAN. She heard them on a radio show--Lincoln Ware of WPHT 1230-AM Cincinnati.

The first is *extremely* interesting...while it will probably also eat at you and make you dislike Bushie even more.
There was man that called in. He said he was in the military (for 14 years). Previously he had been involved in overseeing the security of the President (G.W. Bush). He said he couldn't tell his name even though he didn't have this particular job anymore. Here's his story...He went with the President and First Lady, Laura, somewhere oversees and saw Laura doing something that angered him. He saw Laura Bush buying Mahogany (sp?) wood furniture. He said it costed $60,000. She didn't pay for it. We did. It was charged to the military. How's this for robbing the American people blind?

For the second story...
A woman (a mall courier) called in on the same radio show. She said that stamps would be going up 6 cents next year. This is a lot compared the the usual 1-2 cents. But why is it going up? Bush. She said he had cut something (my mother can't remember the entirety of this) from the U.S. Postal Service. She said everyone was trying to keep it 'hush-hush' b/c they didn't want anyone to know. Apparently this would really hurt Bush or something. She also said the money was taken and given to someone/something else. What it was, I don't know.

Can anyone substantiate this? It could be a real nail in the coffin.

1. Here's Another
It seems that the military is getting ready to install meters into on base housing so that military personnel will be paying for utilities, and there is no plan to provide more pay to cover this little extra cost.

2. I hope this gets out loud and clear
An extra utility bill per month could make a huge difference in the quality of military family life. * hates our military!

3. My take on these matters
As far as Laura buying stuff on our dollar, yes, it is probably true. Sad to say, but most of our presidents have bought furnishings, playtoys, etc on our dime. Most of it is left behind for the next occupant of the White House. Other stuff goes to the Smithsonian or presidential libraries. Undoubtedly some stuff goes home with the ex-president, but sad to say, it seems to be a bi-partisan phenomenon.

As far as the postal hike goes, I think that it is highly unlikely. The US Postal service does not get money from the government anymore, one reason why postal rates are so high now. Instead, there are certain concessions made, matters like free rent, property, etc. But no outright cash. Secondly, the postal service is bound to announce any rate hikes. Too many things involved in hiking the postal rate to leave the public in the dark. Businesses have to have advance notice, as do printers, software companies, mail stores, etc etc. If a rate hike was witheld from these people, well the feces would hit the fan, business would take a nosedive, and the Postal Service would take a hit that might be large enough to shut it down.
