Nasty, lying Swift Boat anti-Kerry ad
Former POWs blaming Kerry for their bad treatment.

They were all captured years before Kerry's anti-war activities. How could they possibly know what he did and what effect it had on their treatment? I'm sorry for them, but Kerry had nothing whatsoever to do with how they were treated.

1. That horseshit ad came onto the TV at my local bank
you know, the one with all those stonefaced old guys and the voiceover talking about how they were tortured because of Kerry, etc.

I said in my best stage voice "Gee, I didn't know everybody who went to Vietnam was WHITE!"

I got a laugh. I hope I made a few people think about where those sour old farts are coming from.

By the time Kerry cofounded VVAW, that war was already starting to wind down, even as protests continued to increase. Those old boys had had years of rough treatment from their captors long before anyone had heard of John Kerry.

He didn't cause it. He didn't prolong it. He just spoke out to prevent other gus from getting shot down to share it.

2. The sad thing is we're going to have to start going through this
all over again in about three years.

3. These moronic asses never stop to think that -
they might have never gotten back if it were not for the efforts of Kerry and many others like him.

4. In a way, I feel sorry for them: they were tortured and suffered...
...for nothing, and they can't bear to admit that, even to themselves. They have to believe that the war was justified, that their sacrifice was not completely unnecessary, so they blame anyone and everything rather than face the truth. Unfortunately, they are being used and traduced once again. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't so complicit in their own manipulation and weren't in the service of such a useless piece of shit like George W. Bush.

I mean - even if it were somehow true about Kerry - how is what he did possibly worse than what Bush did? They are blackguarding a vet in the service of a deserter! Explain that to me!
