Isn't It Time Now For John Kerry To Go Soaringly Positive?
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 09:17 PM by ruggerson
I think everyone knows at this point just how terrible this presidency is. At some point, people want to stop hearing it and start thinking about the future.

Shouldn't he spend the next five days talking about hope and promise and the greatness of this country and how John Kerry is going to make America soar back to heights previously unimaginable?

JMHO, but I think the time has come to see the relentlessly optimistic JK.

1. Past time
I posted Sunday night that the missing weapons story came out at just the wrong time. Kerry needed to go positive all week. As you indicated, minds have long been made up about Bush. It was inevitable this story would be twisted as a liberal media bias against Bush.

I wish Kerry would emphasize that Clinton only raised the taxes of 1.3% of Americans in '93, and his plan will do the same, just the very wealthy. It's amazing how many low to middle income people I talk to think Kerry will automatically raise their taxes.

9. Aren't there some new positive ads coming out?
I just read on here the other day that the Kerry Campaign had filmed a few positive ads to play in the battlegrounds and were planning just what you said for this last week. It was meant to be a contrast with the "wolves" nonsense. This may have been before the 300 ton story broke...

10. There are at least three new positive ads
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 11:08 PM by AwsieDooger
I'm in Nevada, a battleground state, and have seen the positive ads sparingly. The commercials running here from the DNC and MoveOn.org are still overwhelmingly attack spots against Bush.

I saw that response to the wolves ad last weekend on CNN, an ostrich with its head in the sand while an eagle soared above. The dialogue said the eagle could see everything and the ostrich oblivious to everything. I expected to see it this week, until a GOP spokesman said their testing indicated people thought the eagle referred to Bush and the ostrich to Kerry, unaware of the terrorist threat.

I have no idea if that was accurate or spin, but the ad is nowhere to be seen. I don't know why the DNC couldn't simply change the voiceover and reference Bush specifically as the ostrich and Kerry as the eagle. It seemed effective to me.

You are correct. The advertising timetable and strategy clearly changed after the missing explosives story broke. I'm hoping for all positive in the final days.

14. Excerpts from both campaigns positive closing ads
were on one of the cable "news" programs tonight. Can't remember which one - probably on Tweety's show.

8. Absolutely NOT! Attack, attack, attack!
Hey, the proof is in the pudding. Since Kerry took off the gloves, his poll numbers have risen. He must stay with it.

3. I agree with you 100%, I said this a week ago
attacks on Chimpy at this stage of the game bear little fruit. Kerry needs to look and act like the confident President he will be.

I think the undecided voters or those who aren't sure yet if they will vote need a little more convincing that Kerry will "protect" them. This issue seems stupid to we who know better but I believe the key makeover point for this group is security, and not HOW he's going to keep them safe but just the feeling that he CAN protect them and theirs.

the big story right now is explosives-gate and the networks take soundbites of the rallies just for that story.

They don't care about healthcare and the economy anymore. but you KNOW that Kerry talks about it all the time.

18. Kerry must keep attacking until polls turn soildly in his favor
until then, it should be relentless attack, attack
and more attack. Negative campaigning has always worked
and it will this time.

19. I think you're right
Kerry should go soaringly positive.

But the third-tier surrogates should go deeply negative. Bush will be smashed between the two.
