Challenged Voters In Jefferson County
Registered voters in Jefferson County may find their right to vote has been challenged. Across Ohio, 35,000 registered voters have been challenged, 171 of those in Jefferson County.
Ronald Six, of Steubenville, did not know his voter registration information was being challenged until News 9 called him.
This is the first time Ive seen the note, Ronald Six said.=
Mr. Six says he updated his information but did not receive the letter from the Board of Elections saying he needed to verify his address. When News 9 spoke with him, he said he would have gone to the polls not realizing his right to vote was in question.
They probably would not have allowed me to vote. I was planning to go down there to vote, when the election comes up.
The Board of Elections in at least 62 of Ohios 88 counties have scheduled hearings for those people being challenged.
Wednesday, U-S District Judge Susan Dlott ruled that six counties, Franklin, Lawrence,
Medina, Cuyahoga, Scioto and Trumbull, temporarily stop the hearings. Though, Jefferson County is not included in the ruling, Democratic officials say they hope Ohio Secretary of State, Kenneth Blackwell, apply the ruling to all Ohio counties.
