Sign Stealing: A Rural Dem Speaks Out
Recently, a local Repug woman had a LTTE printed in the Grundy County Herald, complaining about B/C signs being stolen and the intimidation Repukes "suffer" for supporting their candidates. ( Mountain folk do not like * but then, mountain people learn to judge folks by actions, not words.) This Repuke went on to basically say that people "look down" on the mountainfolk and that the sign stealing/intimidation just made them look more like hicks. This week, two Dem women responded.

1)TO THE EDITOR:
In response to a letter to the editor published in the October 21 edition of the Grundy County Herald signed by Lucille Scissom:
We have good people in Grundy County. Do you think that if somebody took your signs that it might have been a son or daughter that have elderly parents that may die because George Bush didn't get their flu vaccine; or they may freeze to death because of the price of heating oil; or they can't eat because of the price of health care or medicine; or they might be regular people trying to pay these high gas prices to get to work; or they might be people that hate to see their children owe all the money that is owed on the deficit so the rich can get their big tax cuts? We have GOOD people in this world but George W. Bush is NOT one of them.

J. Green

The second letter was awesome as well. Too tired to type any more.

I just wanted to share what was being said in the hollers of Tennessee. I don't agree with sign stealing, but Ms. Green sure gives one reasons to understand why it's done. And BTW, Kerry signs have also been stolen up here. But no Dems have whined so far. Guess we're used to the dirty tricks, huh?

2. I think so too, Glenda
Simple, direct, and honest. After all, Grundy is Appalachia, winters are cold and elderly people are at great risk. Thepoor are really suffering under this administration.
