One of the dirtiest campaign tricks of this year in Colorado...
State Rep. Mike Merrifield is the only Democrat from Colorado Springs elected to the statehouse in Denver. His Republican opponent had someone put up his yard signs in front of Merrifield's townhome complex. Merrifield's wife asked permission to take them down. But, as she was doing so, a hidden camera caught her and it is now running as a political ad in Colorado Springs...Hey! This is serious business! :)

1. Here's Merrifield's ad.
A hidden camera waited for a member of my family to take this sign down from the front of our home. The sign was trespassing. We had permission to remove it.

A hidden camera. Anytime Anyplace. That's what he represents.

3. I just checked my email and had this from Merrifield...
Dear Friends

In light of yet another desperate attempt by Republicans to create a
diversion from real campaign issues and their flailing race, I can't resist
the temptation to cast some levity with the famous Richard Nixon quote, "I'm
not a thief." The glaring difference between Nixon and me is that he WAS a
liar, but you know me and you know that I'm not a thief, or a liar and I'm
certainly not stupid enough to "steal" yard signs from my opponent in broad
daylight on a busy street!

Here are the facts:

* The R's hired a private detective to follow my wife and me to try and
find something they could fabricate into an issue.

* As in other races around the state, they planted illegal yard signs
without permission, this time in front of my town home complex. Then the
"detective" hid in the bushes and waited. What they did catch was my wife,
Ginger, removing those illegal signs and throwing them away.

* As I said in the Gazette, "this sign dispute represents the pettiness
and depths of desperation the Republicans are reaching to defeat me."

This dying last-gasp attempt by the Republican Party proves frantically they
want to target my race and remove me from office. And it will fail.

I intend to continue my positive campaign, talking about the important
issues and fighting for the values that you care about:

* Affordable healthcare for everyone

* A strong Colorado economy

* Protecting and preserving Colorado's beautiful environment

* A good job with benefits for every person

* Providing and protecting adequate funding for Colorado's public
schools

* A college education for every deserving student.

Your support all along my campaign trail has been strong and impassioned. I
need your continued robust backing so that I can carry on being "The
People's Voice...The People Choice" for another two years.

If you would like to talk to me directly, please call me at 460-0580.

Yours sincerely,

Michael

Representative Michael Merrifield

4. Sorry, but CO Springs is chock full of rightwing nutcases.
Merrifield should get an award for just living there as a Dem --let alone running as one.

5. i never watch fox. i turned to it today
and there it was. now the trickier in this, (these guys are pigs), they showed her taking a coors sign, talking about what she was doing then says she is the wife of the opponent. i am thinking salazar? anyway, they bring on republican to tell about the theft and destruction going on by the dems and at the last 15 sec of the story they say merrifield couldnt be on because of surgery but then has him and he says i was in hospital or i would have done it, my wife did it for me. then there was a brief mention was at a complex and are they allowed. repug says there were dem signs there.

i knew there was something fishy to the story cause merrifield showed no shame or embarrassment,....but man the way they presented the story was bad

i am glad i ran into your thread., thanks for the info
