1. I would have said "vital" but crucial works just as well. |
|
I'd have gone nurts without the Internet (DU) to keep me sane. "There are other people out there like me. I'm not crazy."

... would essentially be OVER in this country if not for the net. It is impossible to underestimate its value, without it there would be almost no unbiased source of information.

5. Kerry (and Dean) have several hundred million dollars worth of better |
|
There is no question it has been critical. Now it is helping us stop the vote rigging and poll sabatoging. And we only needed one (1) internet to do it! ;)

7. I can't tell you how many things appeared in the mainstream media |
|
that I first saw on this site. Things kept alive via the internet that would have died a quick death if waiting for the mainstream media to pick up. You can bet the gov is gonna wanna regulate this baby. They have almost NO CONTROL as we speak.

9. As someone who is new to politics... |
|
The internet and especially DU helped arm me with all of the facts I needed to effectively debate with people. I was actually able to shut up some of my obnoxious repug friends a time or two because I knew more.

10. It changed the equation by empowering the electorate |

which is something that neither the candidates nor the mainstream media had counted on. Four years ago, the internet was an idea whose time was about to go. After 9/11, it became a galvanizing force for those "ten percenters" who weren't buying the government/mainstream media spin. But the real point of no return was when the blogosphere leveraged the ousting of Trent Lott. The Internet has been prevented the mainstream media from cranking out pre-fabricatted "memes," and they've even been force to giving their reporters "blogs" of their own. And let's not forget that turned Bev "Black Box Voting" Harris and the Take Back The Media Folks into international heroes!
Why? Because a world of information is at everyone's fingertips, and everyone can be a media mogul now. Hey, DU said it themselves--"The revolution won't be televised, it will be online."
P.S. Welcome to DU, Blkeyedszn! :hi:
