A Clouding of the Crystal Ball Draws the Candidates Back By R. W. APPLE Jr.
Published: October 28, 2004
ETROIT, Oct. 27 - Two weeks ago, Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm, a Democrat, told a visitor that "unless something big happens," she did not expect John Kerry to return to Michigan before Election Day.
On Monday night, she stood beside Mr. Kerry in Warren, north of Detroit, in the heartland of the Reagan Democrats two decades ago. At his first event in Michigan since Sept. 15, Mr. Kerry told about 10,000 enthusiastic people who filled the Sports and Expo Center of Macomb County Community College that "George Bush has failed in the essential task of commander in chief."
Mr. Kerry is scheduled to appear in Detroit on Saturday.
President Bush, who had not been courting Michigan very assiduously either, visited the state on Oct. 6. He was in Pontiac, also near Detroit, on Wednesday and is scheduled to visit Saginaw on Thursday. Very late in the game, Michigan finds itself back in play.

1. You have to take polls seriously |

Even if you think Michigan will go Kerry, if it is not by more than 6 points then you can't take any risk at this point. Kerry will win Michigan, but I bet it will be by 5 points. I wouldn't worry much, but Kerry can't risk a Bush upset in Michigan.
