Poll question: what impact do you think the "wolves" commercial had? |
|
I saw it and I thought it was laughably lame, but just because I think so doesn't necessarily mean that the general public thinks so too. I'm not discounting the possibility that some people are so dumb that this commercial actually might have worked on them.
So, do you think the "wolves" commercial helped or hurt Bush and Cheney, or made no difference? What is the read you get on people's reaction to it, in the media or on the street?
Notice that one of my options is "helped a little." I'm positive it can't have SIGNIFICANTLY helped the B/C campaign, but then again even helping a LITTLE bit could make a difference in such a tight race.

5. I say it hurts them a bit |
|
They have tried to scare people for political gain before and too many people are on to them for it to change any minds. The only voters who would believe, or even appreciate, that commercial are Junior's base - and they're voting for him, anyway. Presumably.

Who haven't been looking at Bush rationally in the first place. Some may have started to think in terms of better economy, etc. and this commercial, as lame as it was, reinforced in their minds that Something Horrible Lurks Out There.

8. Useless ads at this stage |
|
Do as much good as running an ad for the opposition. The opportunity cost of a dud in last 2 weeks is devastating.

9. Hurt a tad, but such a stupid ad.... |
|
The wolves were beautiful and adorable, not threatening to me anyway!
I still think we should have come out with a pig response--greedy hogs protecting the Oil Ministry while looters are arming themselves with explosives, etc.

12. Reinforces stereotypes. They think Bush is resolute, we think he's panicky |
|
Apparently the commercial reallyl resonates with the nervous nellies who are voting Bush because they don't think we can handle a presidential transition during "war time" (war time being the time when it's most important for us to go shopping).

14. In all seriousness, I think it helped with "wolf awareness"- |
|
Sierra Club or WWF (I forget which, I get email from both) sent out an email with a quiz to test your knowledge of wolves and an article. And the web site wolfpacksfortruth.com is not only funny, but very informative.
So, for once in Bush's life, he has done something FOR the environment. Thank you, Bush.
