5. Forget about the Presidency then -- concentrate on CONGRESS
As progressives, we desperately need to organize from the ground up. That means taking on state assemblies, governorships, US Congress -- and THEN the Presidency.

We won't have a progressive President until the groundwork has been laid for his/her arrival.

15. Fight to change redistricting .....
That's what I am going to do come January 05, start organizing to change the way we draw our districts here in Ohio...

I was once involved with the Demcratic Party, treasurer of the Cuyahoga County Dems, and I grew weary of thee horsetrading that goes on between the parties over safe and unsafe seats. Thsi became especially appartent when I saw REPUBLITHUGS breaking promise after promise made to the dem's not to challenge incumbents....

So I say a pox on both your houses...

Let the districts be drawn by population with no regard to politics......

7. No who would that be exactly? If we start working AGAINST our own
party and national candidate, we will be back where we started.

10. Not necessarily...
There is a difference between the primaries and the election. one determines the nominee, the other the president. We can challenge the party in one and unite in the other.

Hey, it worked pretty well this year... and we (progressives) almost won...

If Kerry can destroy the media monopolies and buy us time to lay the grassroots groundwork over four more years (and the progressive base out there is determined to lay that groundwork...), then 2008 may be a new ballgame for the party and the country. You never know how things will shape up between now and then.

Check his record and report back.

21. I do see Dean as progressive.
He isn't Wellstone, but he's closer than anyone else who ran... If you think about it, originally "progressives" were Republicans like Teddy R. I'd say that Dean had a blend of liberal and conservative values that makes him, yes, progressive. In fact, I think he redefined the term for the 21st century...We are talking about labels here, and those DO change over time.

If not Dean, just what do YOU consider a progressive? Dennis Kucinich? If so, I'll take a Dean progressive any day...

22. Yes I would consider Dennis the Progressive candidate
but like you say they are just labels after all and I thought Dean was a terrific candidate. I was very thankful he made the run and actually IMHO is the reason Some Democrats aquired any spine at all. I just would not consider him progressive any moreso than Kerry who is considered by some (ha ha) to be the most Liberal Senator in Congress. Compared to this Administration I would call Joe Leiberman a Progressive though. No offense intended by my questioning you about Dean. I pay great tribute to Dean.

9. why so negative?
no matter how much you may despise Kerry, what's the point in judging him before you even know what kind of job he does. Even a self-described committed progressive can give a guy a chance.

17. Nice- at least give Kerry a chance to prove whether he is "progressive"
or not before you try to impeach him or replace him.

23. How progressive Kerry turns out to be depends on us
Recall that FDR campaigned in 1932 on a balanced budget platform. He was pushed into the New Deal by popular pressure.

20. Methinks you should learn from fellow progressive Granny D Haddock.
www.grannyd.com

She'll be the first to tell you not to expect perfectionism in a candidate - and that this election is not about your precious political standards, it's about survival of our nation.

11. Citizen movement
Irate Citizen, I agree completely. We need to focus on building a Democracy Movement starting Nov 3 that tears down corporate power. But I know we can do far better than Kerry in '08.

Cocoa, as far not judging Kerry prematurely, be serious. His record is well-established. Maybe you like it far better than I, but there's plenty to judge either way. I never said I despised him.

16. Our next president is one tough SOB!
I can't even imagine the energy this campaign is requiring from him and the toll it is taking on his health and he continually comes out fully energized and completely engaged. He gives me hope for our future!
