Boycott Dunkin' Donuts (Schilling Remark)
Curt Schilling made a remark today on a morning show that everyone should vote, and vote for Bush.

I spoke to some Labor Officials and we have decided, on our own, to register our displeasure with Dunkin' Donuts and urge our members to patronize other coffee outlets.

I talked with a person named Melessa at the Randolph, Mass, corporate office to tell them that when they have a millionaire spokesperson who wants to support someone who is out destroy the jobs of millions of regular working folks, we intend to let our members know.

The number of the Dunkin' Donuts Cooperate office is 781-961-4000. Ask to speak with customer service.

In addition to Dunkin' Donuts, they are the distributors of Baskin Robbins Ice Cream.

I said that I love the Red Sox, and have been a fan for 35 years, but Schilling should stick to throwing a baseball and not tell working people how to vote.

9. The Point is...............
Call the office.

Let them know you don't appreciate a celebrity hocking a product one minute, and then f**king you the next.

There's nothing we can do to Curt but let Dodge and Dunkin' Donuts know how we feel.

18. I just called the number for Dunkin' Donuts
The person at Customer Service said that it "was the first she had heard of it." This I seriously doubt. I told her that I would boycott DD if they didn't come out with a disclaimer.

Unfortunately, a long time DD coffee imbiber.

20. He is THE spokesman
and highest profile athlete to, um, shill their product in New England. There were even ads in the WS showing his connection. And Dunkin' Donuts has advertising space at Fenway Park and all the other sports arenas there. I know this because I live in the Boston area.

6. ridiculous. When the freepers bitch about "hollywood liberals"
we give them crap because those celebs have a right to say whatever they want in a free country and schilling has a right to support bush if he wants (schilling is a fundie and uber wealthy...of course he likes bush). I refuse to sink into the same type of hypocrisy as the repubs on this issue.

Bush losing this election is more important to me than the God Damn Red Sox.

30. of course the election is more important
but to call for the boycott of a company based upon the fact that a local sports figure featured prominently in their commercials is a Bush supporter is flat out bizarre. Seriously. If you don't like the coffee fine, and if you think that somehow Schilling supporting Bush makes DD coffee unpalatable fine again. Personally I dont drink DD coffee because it sucks. If I recall correctly DD are themselves big Bush supporters...now this is a much better reason not to consume their product than a sports pitchman's political viewpoint. Lighten up. You do realize you sound like every freeper who wants to burn Springsteen's CDs because he doesnt support the shrub don't you?

7. Why do people care?
Honestly, why do people care what celebrities say whether they are Curt Schilling or Mel Gibson or the Dixie Chicks or Bruce Springsteen or Eminem. It's so ridiculous. We have our boycott list; they have theirs.

At the end of the day, I still like the Lethal Weapon series and Braveheart, hate the Patriot, love Born to Run, and would sign Curt Schilling to pitch for me tomorrow. I just can't get this worked up about this.

The only difference between my stupid opinions and Curt's stupid opinions is access to a microphone. If I had access to one, I would be saying all kinds of bat-shit crazy things too.

17. Why do you think he's selling coffee
instead of you.

Because of his celebrity. If it didn't work, Dunkin' Donuts wouldn't have him as a spokesperson.

By the same token, his status now helps Bush with people who can't think for themselves.

Let your voice be heard where it counts, on their bottom line.

I think celebrities should be able to speak their minds, and I should have the right to laugh at them because most of them flunked out of high school and are just not that bright.

To me, I would be the hyprocite in going after right-wing celebs.

If he was refusing to sell coffee and donuts to Democratic people, then I'd be upset. Or if he said derogatory things about Kerry, but I support people encouraging people to vote and I am realistic enough to know very few people take their political cues from random business people.

If everyone at DU worked on the Kerry campaign as hard as me, we'd be up by 10% everywhere.

I sat with three Kerry supporters, including two lawyers who have trained for stopping voter fraud in NH this morning. I will be working in Salem NH on Tuesday. I'm an AFL-CIO COPE member and have worked since last year on first Dick Gephardt's campaign, and then John Kerry's.

Maybe we Bostonians are most upset with Curt because we are big Red Sox Fans, but we certainly wanted people to know how we felt.

By the way, I have enough time and energy to do both.

I have members that can't afford health care, a 75 year old mother waiting for a flu shot, members kids fighting in Iraq against their will and beyond their enlistment agreements.

if he would have said vote for Kerry, we'd be hailing him as a hero. I don't give much thought to who celebrities or atheletes endorse as candidates, I vote on the issues and for the candidate who aligns with the issues I'm concerned about. Even if I thought Curt Schilling was the greatest professional athlete and my personal hero, I sure as heck wouldn't change my vote from Kerry to * just because of this remark. Kerry has my vote and no "celebrity" endorsement will sway that.

On the other, I'm supposed to be pissed that Schilling is trying to get drunken bleacher bums with no concept of anything about politics to the polls. I don't get it.

More importantly, the one place he is most likely to make an impact is Massachuesetts. I'm not really worried.

If you boycott Dunkin Donuts why stop there he is a spokesperson for Ford Trucks as well. Sell your truck now. Dunkin Donuts advertises on Sinclair, we boycott them why stop there? They are carried on Comcast who is the largest cable company out there and a heavy Repug donner to boot. Everyone call an cancel now, yes the high speed internet to. I just think this is the kind of extremism that we ridicule the Freepers for.

So now I guess I have to stop Dinking my favorite coffee sell the old Mustang I am planning on restoring with my two kids, cancel my cable and internet access and live a bland and boring life becuase a bornagain chrstian millionaire went on TV and said vote for Bush.

they use his star power to achieve a market share. If you disagree with him, make it cost him.

The other side plays this game very well. But I guess we're all above that.

Maybe that's why this country is almost total Freeperville.

74. It's Ford
In the commercial he is hitch hiking to Boston and a Dodge and Chevy pull up first and he declines the rides. When the Ford pulls up he gets in the truck. If you want to take this to extremes you will be living in a house with out TV, internet access, in places even electricity and ridding your bike every where. We will have to buy cars that are not made in factories owned by Republicans. So I guess we stop supporting American car makers all together. It seems petty and ignorant to me.

I dis like Republican politics as much as anyone here but this boycott company X is to Bill O'Rilley to me.You want to talk beanbag...how much of a dent are the members of this board going to put into the bottom line of Dunkin Donuts? I am not intimidated by anything, I do know how to pick my battles however.

66. I refuse to play the Republicans game
In early 2003, every actor that came out against the war was going to be boycotted by the Freepers. I thought at the time "how pathetic is it that people can't recognize someones talent just because they have different opinions than them?" Schilling is a baseball player, not a political figure. This is America, and people ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE DIFFERING OPINIONS. We can't say we believe in free speech, but threaten to try and bring harm to anyone who has a different opinion than us. It's not childish, but it is fundamentally unAmerican and ultimately helps the republicans. They want 1/2 the country to hate the other 1/2, only that way do they thrive. We have to respect that fact that all Americans have different views, and we should focus on what every individual can still contribute to society, even if they are republicans. Schilling has made his contribution, and he should be applauded for it. There are many people in the New England area who've lost their jobs, and watching the Sox win the World Series has been a bright spot in their lives, given them an escape from Bush world. I respect Curt Schilling as a baseball player and I truly think he seems like a nice guy. If he has misguided political philosophy, that's a shame, but that doesn't mean he isn't of strong character. If which way you vote completely defines who you are, we are dangerously polarized on both sides and in a lot of trouble regardless of who wins.

68. And people have a right to disagree
Why is it alright to for a company to use the positive aspects of a player or a performer to sell a product, but the opposite is not allowed?

Curt Schilling has every right to say what he wants. I have every right to by a car from whom I want, or drink coffee where ever I choose.

If an entertainer, like Springsteen, chooses to campaign for a candidate, I can choose to not buy his music and to encourage others not to do so, either. In Springsteen's case, when he came out for Kerry, every niece and nephew received a Springsteen CD for their birthday or any other occasion a gift was appropriate. I voted with my dollars.

I use my dollars politically. I actually listen to Right Wing talk radio to hear the bull shit from the other side, so I can refute it.

I also take note of who advertises with them, and I don't buy their products. I even let them know why I don't buy them.

Same with Schilling. He chooses to use his celebrity for a political end, there's an upside. He may turn-out votes for Bush. He's not doing it because he knows what he's talking about, but only because he's who he is.

By the same token, advertises feel they can sell products based, not on what Schilling knows, but who he is.

Because of who he is, a back stabbing scab Bush supporter, I choose not to buy any product he endorses and I encourage all others who feel as I do, that our very existence is at stake, to do the same.

57. Aren't the Sox owners campaigning for Kerry?
Are the freepers going to boycott them, somehow?

I don't believe in boycotts based on some spokesperson's political views, they don't necessarily reflect the views of the company, and this is the same exact thing the freepers do and we go ballistic.

He is an individual citizen, he has a right to speak his mind. It is entirely different from a company using their warchest to support a candidate. Don't you see the difference?

67. Schilling is a harmless egoistical jock

If people change their minds about who they are voting for or who they will vote for,
well then that's pretty sad. IMHO

69. If you have been
campaigning as hard as I have in New Hampshire for Kerry.

And if you were a long suffering Red Sox fan as I am, and so many others in the region are, you'd know that this is more than just a small matter.

Wait until Saturday, and see how many fans turn out in Boston, then you'll get some idea.
