Does anyone else sense a Rathergate in the making re KTSP?
There are so many similarities it's starting to cause me to reach for the Reynolds Wrap. :tinfoilhat:

Some damning information comes to light about Bush. (TANG service/explosives missing)

It gets bandied about on the news with several conflicting excuses/explanations being offered which make it seem all the worse for Bushco. (He completed his service/he missed a few drills/he blew it off entirely)...(they were never there/the Russians took 'em/it was the soldiers' fault).

A startling and unexpected bombshell, which is sure to bring down the house of cards and prove once and for all he's a total fraud, comes to light. (Rather docs/KTSB video)

They refuted one small, rather insignificant piece of the TANG story (forgerd docs) and managed not only to kill the messenger, but make the whole subject radioactive.

Drudge's bogus, debunked AlQ tape could be the shiny bait that the MSM seems focused on like a laserbeam. If it proves to be as laughably fake as reported yesterday, when the KTSB video breaks they can say "oh the public is so tired of phony videos..." and cause Bush's headache to go away entirely with the bonus that the MSM gets to pretend they're doing their jobs.

1. The difference here is video footage
This is MUCH harder to refute. They would need Steven Spielberg to forge this correctly.

Bush is going to have to hire a spin army to deny the authenticity of this footage. He definitely can't do it in 5 days and can't do it at all because it's the truth.

6. You're totally 100% correct
but remember, CBS cancelled a very damning Greg Thielman interview about the lies leading up to war because of Rathergate. He had the goods and then some.

Their excuse was "we don't want to do another forgery story."

Neither was technically a forgery story, but they managed to kill it by saying that one little piece of the overall picture made all other information not worth mentioning.

5. if it's a Rove hoax...
he would have done it 2 weeks ago. It's too close to the election to turn the story around. And to send Rudy "Count Chocula" Giuliani to Today and have him spin so fiercely it backfires on him tells you that Chimpy's armpits are positively soaked over this story.

7. Not a chance.
This is not an individual with a dubious past purporting to have a news story. This is a full operation Minneapolis local news station, that had enough credibility to be allowed to have reporter crews on site with the first troops in Iraq, as the war was engaged.

This is their video. They show explosives with 1.1 designation. They show a cable being cut and talked about by a soldier in the division.

In short, Bush is in the crematorium.

9. The beauty of this is ...
It has absolutely dominated the news for almost the entire last week of the election. Bush can't get any airtime without this coming up. It's everywhere. And regardless of the little details, it brings up another failure, that of unsecured weapons, in Iraq.

They can spin and spin, but I think the story alone casts doubt on Bush's ability to do his job. That's a good thing.

12. Nope. Here's why:
If this was a Rovian plot, you wouldn't have had 5 different excuses being bandied about. They would've had ONE major refutation and been done with it. This thoroughly caught them flat-footed, and could very well be the CIA's payback for Plame and Tenet.

One more thing:

How many times over the last few years have we said "the NY Times can spend months keeping Whitewater on the front page, but they can't investigate XXXX"? They've had this front page for 2 days now, and if we see it again tomorrow, it isn't going away.

13. not a repeat of rathergate
the outcry on the TANG docs was immediate. this is bubbling up and from what i can tell, is getting no play just yet. if this were part of a rovian-style ploy to discredit someone and turn attention away from the story.

the WH has been forced to BACK OFF original lines of attack, when NBC stood up to them about the original reporting.

with respect to the sludge vid...if the ABC vid were of serious consequence, we'd have known about it right now. the CIA isn't going to take another fall for shrubbie.

the problem for shrubbie is that this story has LEGS. it's been in the news since late sunday and ISN'T going away. the more it's there, the more questions can be raised.

the creepublicans are on the defensive. i hope the damning information keeps pouring in. couldn't happen to a more evil group!

j, smiling greatly!

15. Muddying the waters
seems to be just as good as a solid refutation used to be. Nobody pursues the real story, just the window dressing surrounding it.

They did it and got away with this ploy with TANG, with Plame, and others.

Plus the source of the KTSB is allegedly RW.

17. I don't think this one can hurt us
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 03:15 PM by TexasDem4Kerry
It's being reported my a media source that gathered the information with it's own two little hands. There are no other parties to blame. It's a private agenda for their gain.

I think all the other junk was to try and screen because they suspected this would come out. Best to make it look very confusing before the truth hurts..er..hits. People might be less likely to buy it that way.

on edit:
I am not saying Kerry should run with this, he should not touch it with a ten foot poll unless it somehow is validated before Tuesday. Let the reporters report for a change.

18. True, there are distinctions as well as similarities
It's just that I've been down this road before and I don't want to get my hopes up about this being the final nail in these vampires' coffins only to have it snatched away.

Then again, is that the fat lady I hear warming up in the corner over there?

19. It was nice of the Army to cut the cable
on the door to the explosives then leave it all intact and unguarded wasn't it?? Saved the looters the trouble of cutting the cable.

23. Didn't anybody think "Boy, this isn't safe, we should haul it away"?
Won't someone think of the unguarded explosives?

Hell, worse come to worse, why in hell didn't they blow the facility up and eliminate all the hi-ex? Okay, that is my pure animal/male mind thinking that it would be cool to see something go 'boom' but 380 tons of the stuff would probably be quite devastating.

This is just another in a long line of the failures in this war. Thank god this one is sticking.

Now they need a distraction... Falluja's going down.
