LOL! Kerry camp calls on Bush to REMOVE altered AD!

KERRY CAMPAIGN CALLS ON BUSH TO PULL DOCTORED AD
In response to the stunning revelation that the Bush-Cheney campaign’s much touted closing ad has been exposed as doctored, the Kerry campaign is demanding that this fake ad be taken off the airwaves immediately.

Senior Adviser Joe Lockhart issued the following statement:
“Now we know why this ad is named ‘Whatever it Takes.’ This administration has always had a problem telling the truth from Iraq to jobs to health care. The Bush campaign’s advertising has been consistently dishonest in what they say. But today, it’s been exposed for being dishonest about what we see.

“If they won’t tell the truth in an ad, they won’t tell the truth about anything else. This doctored commercial is fundamentally dishonest and insults the intelligence of the American people. The Bush campaign has no choice but to take this ad down immediately and issue an apology for its latest attempt to mislead the American people.

“Unless George Bush has changed its position on human cloning, it’s got to pull this fundamentally dishonest ad immediately.”

6. They clone-stamped a couple of soldiers over and over again
Apparently to replace the black soldiers in the picture. They also digitally removed Bush himself from the photo.

There are at least 5 other threads on this topic floating around, maybe more by now.

12. Hahahaha
It's really funny, especially the "cloning" part -- although I don't see much point in harping about the ad. Since all they covered was Dubya, I don't see anything sinister in the ad -- I think it's bizarre they used a picture they had to doctor instead of a real one, but I think there are much better cases to be made about Bush's lies than "If they won’t tell the truth in an ad, they won’t tell the truth about anything else.".

Maybe somebody can point out to me what is so sinister about taking Dubya out of the picture...

25. it's a political tactic, more than anything else
by responding, it's keeping it in the news. and all the american people will hear about is basically a "doctored ad" -- makes bushco look bad either way.

it's politics. and it's fun :-D

28. It's like the plastic turkey business.
Somebody commented at that time that a lot of people will lie if they're trapped into a bad situation (e.g. Clinton), but the Bush people lie habitually even when there's no need to and even when they have nothing to gain from it. Like there's no difference between image and reality, between truth and lies. That's what makes this significant--the fact that they didn't even have a good reason to do it, but did it anyway.

41. The point is
that it takes some of the wind out of this ad. Now instead of hearing how effective and damaging the ad is, we're going to hear, "Why the fuck would they photoshop this? Will it damage their credibility?"

33. What else are they faking?
How about the Iraq WMDs, "Russians took the explosives", 9/11 investigation, etc, etc, etc.

I think that people assume that political ads are not exactly the picture of honesty. I'm worried that it will seem weak to make a case for Bush's dishonesty by harping on a political ad which was altered in no way that discernibly benefits Bush.

47. Because this is the sort of thing
Karl Rove would have a field day with if it was in a Dem. ad.

Who cares that it's a non-issue? It's pictoral proof of fakery. That's what resonates with some people.

I can talk to my Repub. dad about Bush's lies that sent us to war all I want but he won't believe it because he can't believe it (or his whole frame of the world would fall away)...but show him something small like this and it chips away at his faith...Bush falls another notch. It goes something like this: "I can see with my own eyes that they faked this photo. I wonder what else they fake/lie about?"

Nothing big, but the more it's pounded into their skulls the more it helps the scales fall away.

51. Exactly, a Bush voter just told me he was disgusted and there is no
need for this stupidity this late in the game. Rove would pound this into the ground and McClennan would be hold a press conference spouting off his doughboy mouth about how this is a political trick. Well, guess what, Bush STILL wouldn't admit to a mistake!

18. This is the moment
I'm in love with the Kerry campaign right now. This race reminds me of Hopkins/Trinidad, where Hopkins dominated the fight the whole time, but it was just so impossible to believe that Trinidad wasn't eventually going to land a big shot - and then in the closing rounds, Hopkins landed a flush hook and knocked Trinidad out.

All who call themselves Democrats should tip their cap to Kerry and his team next Wednesday. You may not love their politics, but they know what the fuck they're doing; a welcome change from this maladministration.

This PS'd photo is really not all that important, but many will see and hear "Doctored AD"... which could really hurt Bush. At least I hope they hear and see it. I know some in the media are already making references to it.

50. Exactly. It's not the pic that's important, it's the lies about it.
Even on CNN, when Mehlman finally explained what happened, do you think most of the country will understand 'Photoshopped' and all that? No. They'll hear 'altered' and 'changed' and 'doctored'. They'll also remember the denials that the photo was changed in any way at all before the B*sh campaign finally told the Photoshop story. THAT is what the general public will take away from this little story - nagging concerns about this admin.'s dishonesty over the unimportant issues. Kind of makes it hard for them to believe Junior when he swears he's telling the truth about not knowing any explosives were missing, doesn't it?
