1. She left him off the hook. She allowed him change the subject.

2. The bigger picture
The real significance is that this non-issue is making waves. That's a sign that * is incredibly vulnerable to attack right now. If he were standing on solid ground, this wouldn't be a story. Because it's NOT a story.

The story is that * is losing.

3. Say with me:
If they LIE and try to COVER UP and MISDIRECT over such a amatuerish and inconsequential deception, how much more willing would they be to lie, cover up and misdirect over something that mattered? And THEY HAVE. They LIED about the war, they've cried wolf OVER AND OVER, they've COVERED-UP for their FAILURE on 911...and STILL they will admit NO mistake, no misstep. Always blame Kerry. That's their SOP.

4. I think that this is a HUGE story
But what do I know?

It's just that I grew up in OH and have lived in NC for more than 25 years, and I know a lot of Republicans. They cling to the notion that "W is a godly man."

At the very least, this proves that W's ad team has liars and cheats on it. That is going to be a very uncomfortable fact for many shrub-supporters to swallow. It could even lead to the next logical step.....

Maybe the president isn't as nice as he says he is?

8. You have got to be kidding
>> At the very least, this proves that W's ad team has liars and cheats on it.<<

If this was a NEWS photo, the fuss would be warranted, but this is filler. It's wallpaper. It's a visual devoid of meaning. EVERY graphic artist/web master/magazine editor in the world has done this at one time or another, regardless of party affiliation. It's part of the job description -- create an image that I can use behind a quote, as a button, as a wallpaper, make it darker, make it lighter, put in more people, take out people, put in a pig, take out that airplane, take out those phone lines, put in a flag.....

Slamming this photo is so bizarre it makes me dizzy.

10. I am George W Bush* and I approved this ad
Let him try and blame it on some underling. That was his voice saying he approved the ad.

5. What "they" are you talking about?
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 03:32 PM by Boomer
This so-called deception is nothing more than some poor slob of a photo editor who is trying to find images to use as a wallpaper. Some poor working stiff is probably going to lose their job for doing what I've done a hundred times before -- altered an image to make it fit some goddamn layout because I didn't have time to find another image that worked.

Yes, * & Co are a bunch of lying, murdering SOBs, but they're not graphic artists and they're not responsible for a stupid photo that was badly photoshopped.

9. I would rather talk about the lies you mentioned...
...than talk about a lie that was done for no sinister motives and no political benefit -- more likely, for purely technical reasons.

12. What?
Were they lacking panoramic shots of Bush soldiers? I hardly believe that. They lie about things, all things, big and small.

13. Well, so since they weren't lacking panoramic shots of soldiers...
...then there are two possibilities for the fakery: one, technical, and two, sinister. I can't see how this could be sinister precisely for the reason you mentioned.

14. Ok, let me try and simplify...
...it's an issue because it visually demonstrates a propensity to LIE about a LIE, even when it's COMPLETELY INCONSEQUENTIAL, as in this case. Jimminy cricket. They lie about explosives, they lie about the troops, they lie about doctored photos. They lie about the big and the small.
