News from inside Bush-Florida (very tense/upset/unprepared)
ok, I admit it. I have a friend who is a real live Bush Supporter (tho' she thinks he's too liberal).

Although we see things very (!!) differently, we remain friends. She called me today to say that she had some good news for me re: Florida. She is still very confident that Bush will win, but says that they're in big trouble in Florida. She has friends volunteering there this week and they have called/emailed her to say:

(a) The republican "machine" is currently very unorganized and understaffed.
(b) They were totally unprepared for the early voting. While Democrats had at least two poll-watchers at each polling place (and usually 3), the Repubs "were lucky" to have even one.
(c) They are scrambling to staff up and things are very very tense. Everyone is upset with each other and blaming the other for failing to prepare sufficiently.

So -- while I'm sure that they're working to fix the problems -- but wanted to share that - even tho' they're putting on a brave face -- they're worried big time about Florida.

11. Mojambo, you're way too funny.
Have you used all of your 1000+ posts correcting people on the spelling of lose vs. loose? You're my favourite school marm...

(Note: spelling of "favourite". I'm from Canada so there's no need to correct me.)

16. Well, if you'd been around more than 35 posts
Perhaps you would know that this is the first time I've ever corrected someone's grammar.

But since you just got here you couldn't possibly know that. So I'll let it slide.

BTW - Welcome to DU.

13. Thank you
If I read, even one more time, "loose" where it should read LOSE, I think my brain is going to implode.

LOSE LOSE LOSE, darn it!

I will join the crusade against loose/lose confusion.

I mean, all that extra typing, what with the extra O.

7. Probably....especially in these locales where Rethugs intend to
carry out mass "challenges" in the minority areas. If it becomes apparent as the day passes that the challenges are slowing the lines down to the point where a bunch of people could get cut off at poll closing time it's hard to imagine what we might see. I sure as flying fuck wouldn't tolerate it.

3. Oxycontin Rush was worried weeks ago...
I happened to catch him saying that Repugs were being skunked on new voter registration, organization, and the ground game.

Barring blatantly illegal shenanigans, we have a decent shot in Florida!

If they could just find those 10s of thousands of absentee ballots that surprisingly "just disappeared"....

6. The Repugs never even sent paid staffers
to Alachua County. The 'volunteers' who are running things are the most unprofessional, unethical, turds that you ever want to met. It is no surprise that they are in shambles right now. Just wait until they start eating each other. It's going to be fun.

Here's a pic of your typical Florida Republican Operative. This fine specimen is the Secretary of the Alachua Co Repug Exec Comm. I know the rest of the gang are just as 'nice' as she is.

19. I was just at the Alachua County Fair...
a B/C lady came up to me and I said (politely) that I was for the other guy...she says that she has to ask why because most people are for Kerry because they are against Bush...I said that I thought that was a perfectly fine reason to vote for Kerry (even though I personally like Kerry) and she was SHOCKED, SHOCKED i tell you...

Some of Alachua is so normal, yesterday we were canvassing and it was incredible...but some is just so damn conservative...leave me alone when I'm at the fair, or else, I'll try to debate them, heh heh:)

23. It may be so.
It's most likely, IMO, that we pull off narrow victories in at least three of the following: PA MI OH FL IA/WI/MN. It leaves them fighting a rear-guard action to try to overturn two, maybe three or more, states.

28. We beat a 5 point polling deficit in 2000 with GOTV
My wife works at Kerry headquarters in Orlando. People are just walking in all day long looking to volunteer in any way that they can help. All the poll watcher slots are filled, we have people driving all the vans that can be mustered, we have visibility event all over town, all the phone bank slots are filled, most every democrat I know has been canvassed once and many twice.

34. After the 2000 fiasco, the polls, and the Repugs recent intrigues
I can hardly think of anything that would make me happier than to see Kerry take this state, despite everything. I'm sure that the pundits will try to come up with some excuse for it.
