Aaron Brown blows me off (Email) |
|
My Email:
Aaron, What's the deal with CNN anyway? I watch several news sources, and it always seems you guys do nothing but spin the bush talking points. Especially with regard to the recent news about al-QaQaa. Does Eason get a check every month or something? I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just trying to justify watching CNN. Thanks Aaron, I know you will be honest with me. XXXXXXXXXX
Aaron writes;
XXXX I will be honest. I think this is nonsense

have to do with the price of tea in China?
It's his job to report, not slant the news to his "honest" opinion.

i think it's rude to post his (or any correspondent's) responses verbatim the way people post Aaron's.
It's cool that he responds at all (so few, if any do) -- If he knew that people were posting it - he'll stop writing at all.
just my opinion.

However, when we are dealing with CNN, who BLATANTLY spins and flaks for bush, then it's all good.
I'll remind you, CNN tried to pimp the "Russians took the explosives" story.
They have zero crediability and should be forced off the air.
That's MY opinion.

7. Reporter's posts like this should be posted, imho. |
|
His opinion of the news is not important and should never be stated. The facts should be reported and it is the failings of the media to adequately report that has put our nation in such a crisis!

I have also received one of Aaron's arrogant responses. He makes his living in the public eye, and thus should comport himself accordingly. If he's rude, then people have every right to tell others.

I think it's unfair to post Brown's responses. I e-mailed him about the story regarding the idiocy of Bush supporters and their delusional beliefs. I was curious as to his reasoning for this (i.e. the media's culpibility). I assured him that I would keep his specific comments private. He responded politely and with that trademark sarcasm. I won't post his comments (I gave my word) but he does bitchslap a certain fake news organization.

if you're going to email these folks, don't fuck around.
if you have a serious concern, voice it. don't write snide and immature comments.
i'm surprised he even responded to that, i wouldn't have.
aaron, overall, does very good work.
if you've got a concern with him, don't be snarky about it. be an adult, and perhaps you'll get a response that's NOT a "blow off"."

15. me too -- which is why I think it's rude. |
|
The most I get from anyone else is "thanx" or an automated reply.
And -- to clarify. Of COURSE we need to hold ALL media's feet to the fire. Of COURSE we need to challenge them when they spin the story incorrectly (in our opinions OR based on the facts).
And -- IF there's something NEWSWORTHY in the email (i.e., O'Reilly talking about phone sex or Aaron Brown saying that he hates Kerry and so will spin against him) of COURSE that should be reported.
but -- that's not the kind of emails being posted here.

You accused him of "spinning the Bush talking points". He is one of the few good journalists left and you got what you deserved. At least he answered you. Most of them don't. I have written him several times and he has always replied civilly. Even when I am critical, I state it more politely. And BTW, did you think he would criticize his own network on an email to a stranger?

Maybe we need to be asking why.

And would you appreciate anyone who put you in that position? I don't think I would be happy about it, especially as all such mail can be legally screened by the employer.

39. I just asked the question... |
|
No expectations.
Sorry, I gave up genuflecting members of the media a long time ago.
But that's getting far too personal.
CNN and everyone associated with putting lies on television is equally culpable. Even if you like Aaron. Sorry, just the way I see it.
Did I expect him to "bag" Eason Jordan? No.
Do I expect him to think about what he chooses to be a part of?
Absolutely.
Because in journalism, all you have is integrity and credibility.
Clearly, you think I low balled Aaron.
I can live with that.
Peace.

|
His response was arrogant, condescending & disingenuous.
I was suggesting he have Greg Palast as a guest on his show & that CNN was tilting so far to the Right that he would not be allowed to have him on. He assured me that no one else decides who gets on his show but him. I said fine I look forward to your interview with the Award winning Journalist Greg Palast.
He responded with a quote from Don Quixote about (Tilting At Windmills)
He is a pseudo Journalist as are most at CNN.
Palast would eat him for breakfast IMO.
It's over 8 months since I last watched cnn & I'm better for it.

...or was his "nonsense" in reply to what he took to be your opinion of him? Because the 15 minutes he just spent on the KSTP video and his interview of David Kay NAILED Bush and the lies coming from the White House to the wall with no equivocation. And he was smirking when he did it.
I'm not defending him, but I do think that while it's apparently network policy to coddle Bush and this administration, and many nights he does coddle them, when they are caught in a lie, and there's indisputable proof, he does expose them without any hesitation, and sometimes, like tonight, he does it with relish.

I got to meet Aaron Brown at the airport in DC this past June. He was flying back to Atlanta and I was on my way back to Anchorage.
I saw him walking into the men's room, so I hauled ass over to the door to catch him as he walked out.. He was basically still in mid-zip up when I grabbed him ;)
I swear, I scared the crap out of him because he didn't see it coming. But wow.. what a SWEETHEART he was!! After his heartbeat went back to normal from me startling him, he sat with me at the gate I was at for maybe 10 minutes or so.
I told him that he did an incredible job when he and General Clark were working together during the initial attack of Iraq.
He said "Oh man, Wes is a good bud, a really good friend." (I didn't know at that time that I'd get to meet General Clark a couple months later in Anchorage or I would've mentioned it..) I talked with him about Alaska, about the newspaper headlines he does on his show, and asked him about living in Atlanta, etc..
He sure seems too nice to be a A-hole :( .. (and he's kinda cute in person! ;) )
Anyway.. my one time experience with him was pretty cool. B-)

CNN is okay. I know they are slow with political stories, but that is because we want to win so bad that we are starting to sound like freepers. Just be patinet.
Brown does an excellent job. CNN's political coverage leaves a lot to be decided, because analysis isn't their storng suit. CNN kills the competition on reporting. But CNN's analysis shows are lacking. It is okay, newsnight is excellent. Stop rooting for Bush bashing and watch the show.
The only channel that shows extreme political bias is Foxnews. Bu they have never said they were obnective anyhow. Foxnews says it is fair and balanced: In journalisitic speak that means you take a stand on the issues but you try and allow people who disagree with you to voice thier opinion. Much different than other neutrak news netwroks. Fox has never said it is objective remember that.

Of course, if you email him snide comments, why the feck would he bother with you. Political frustration is no excuse for bad manners. KWIM? His is the only show I'll still watch on CNN.
