Got back from the Madison rally |
|
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 10:11 PM by pbg
The line for internet tickets was over two miles long...snaked all the way around the site--
We finally shortcutted to fairly near the crowd.
Excellent sound system.
Somebody was setting up a cell-phone bank in the middle of the rally. Cool idea, but an awful noisy venue for canvassing.
Dave Grohl in fine voice.
Only three trolls that I saw: one an ancient station wagon with a big letter to Michael Moore taped to the side. I said to the folks around me. "What do you think? Should we kill him now?" just to confirm his preconceptions; a woman shouting out "You're all wicked! You're all wicked! who didn't have her sign right side up; and two young women sporting BC stickers who were assaulted llby all and sundry with FIVE MORE DAYS!
Really really lame intro by governor wossname, who tried to put as many bruuuce titles into one paragraph as he could. Bruce said that's the last time the Guv opens for him.
"Promised Land."
Bruce's short speech was magnificent, general, and beautiful. And he was the one to mention Paul Wellstone.
"No Surrender."
I know Kerry's points pretty well by now, but he was still great. Best snarky line: "George Bush was confused when he was told that the Boss would be campaigning with me. Why, he thought, would Dick Cheney do a thing like that?"
It's a well balanced speech, equal parts hard hammering, policy, and vision for the future. This man will be a fine President.
100,000 people. The last time I was in a crowd like that was at Woodstock.
The only thing that made me despair was afterwards, going down to Beloit to take my friends daughter out to dinner, we passed a Chevy Cadillac dealership. I swear to you that the dealer's name was in fact Bud Weiser.
My feet are killing me, but it was a great day. A great day.

6. My mother in law lives in Beloit... |

She's a fine democrat, too. I know that Bud Weiser dealership you mentioned.
Would have loved to be in Madison today. I did get to see soon-to-be-prez-elect Kerry this past Tuesday in Las Vegas. We had Sheryl Crow for the warmup.
Go Bucky Badger.
