Freep friends are voting for KERRY!
I was so shocked when my Freep Friend called tonight.
She is very ill.
During our conversation she told me that she just voted absentee for Kerry! She said that her sister voted for Kerry as well.

I tried to contain my joy!

She said that her mother, who died ten years ago, was a life long Republican. Her mother was a wealthy African American business woman.

My friend told me that what finally changed her mind was --- the possibility of Bush naming justices to the Supreme Court!

She also said that she really didn't like Kerry's voting record(I just let her talk.)

I was surprised, because she is seriously ill, that her decision to vote for Kerry was not his pro stance on Stem Cell Research.

Ironically, it was the hospitalization of the Chief Justice that put this issue in the news in the week before the election.

That's my 2 Votes for Kerry story, what's yours?:bounce:

8. What turned the tide for them?

It would help us to know what the rationale is that works for them at this late date.

3. Wow...
That was pretty noble of you to let her talk. Granted, she is very ill, but someone attacking Kerry's record like that would really push my buttons to want to respond. I'm glad to hear that we have an additional two votes for Kerry, regardless of the reasons.

6. I really was still in shock

She knew that I was working hard for Kerry.

I never tried to even approach the subject of voting for Kerry with her. I truly adore her as a friend, politics aside.

Now I have another Rethug friend that is a finished fool.

She is always bragging about Aaarnold and who she knows in the Republican party. About two weeks ago she mentioned Bush. During the Debate time she said," Bush really looked bad." My response was, "Yep he did."

It would not surprise me one bit if that friend secretly votes for Kerry too.

13. I hope there are a lot!

When they are polling and call Republicans , is there a poll that shows the number that have switched?

I would love to see that poll.

4. My fundy freeper sister and brother in law
are voting Kerry!

My wife told me this evening, as we rarely see each other.

I was blown away, until I heard that it is my brother in law's concern over the draft that changed their minds.

Typical, support that madman until it might have some effect on you.

But whatever, I will take it.

Hell, we may even be able to hang out again.

Maybe..

5. me too ...
The repub doctor friend I converted has in turn converted many people at the hospital where he works. Yesterday, he convinced a repub lawyer to go Kerry. Okay ... I didn't really "convert" him. He smart enough to recognize * for what he is. He disagrees with the overt faith, anti-abortion and is pro stem cell. The lawyer was convinced by the realization that * would have the power to choose 3 supreme court justices. My friend still gives me credit.

We have three more days to change some minds.

The news is in our favor big time.

Wish I knew some tried and true ways to change their minds but I bet a lot switch after the Explosives Mess!

10. Today I converted the lady at the credit union
who hasn't voted before. She didn't think she was registered, but here if you have a drivers licence with your current address you are registered. I gave her the ph# at the elections office to find out where to vote, and a Kerry Edwards button.
She thought John Kerry was for gay marriage. I explained K/E civil unions/gay marriage position. The christian right has really lied a lot (surprise surprise).
I wish we had a stronger party organization here.
But the other folks I talked to today were not sold on Kerry. I think it's because the commercial media has suppressed his message. To me that is just criminal, or certainly should be.

15. It might be that the "Old Republicans" are falling away this time
Don't know, but most of the people I read about in this thread are what I call old Republicans (for example the doctor). They see things like these people trying to reverse evolution (also known as science) being taught in schools and they start to realize the lunatics have taken over the Republican asylum.

18. My daughter
voted for Bush in 2000 but voted for Kerry yesterday. She was undecided until recently. What helped her make her decision was stem cell research. She was absolutely appalled at Mel Gibson's behavior yesterday.

21. He was screaming and ranting on some show

As I recall it , he did not formally come out for Bush.

Said he was opposed to stem cell research.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
