The US Election Atlas is great because it has a timeline of election night '00.

http://uselectionatlas.org/INFORMATION/ARTICLES/ElectionNight/pe2000elecnighttime.php

It's really cool...It gives a preview of this year's election night.

I didn't remember this, but Oregon wasn't called until Nov 10, three days after election day, which was Nov 7 that year...and New Mexico was called for Gore, retracted, then called again days later...He eventually ended up with a 366 margin of victory.

Assuming Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico, Ohio, or some other state isn't known that night, we likely won't know the winner. Of course, this time I think Oregon will be much more decisive. I think we'll see the state called for Kerry that night.

As for the rest of them, I have no idea. At the earliest, it'll be 3 in the morning, but the nerves will be killing me. I just hope Kerry's victory is decisive enough.

3. Kicking and screaming
it'll take some days to clean up the mess affecting important other races, but only the GOP will be grumbling and denying the inevitable.

I imagine some last outburst of bullying, threatened investigations, recounts, etc. It won't work, but they are too graceless not to try, too stupid to choose the right brand of cowardice for the occasion, too arrogant not to blame someone else for everything that has happened to them.

And the networks should be dumped. A no TV movement has a lot more weight than it ever had among the school homework crowd. The sponsors will begin to wonder why they are advertising to a losing minority on Radio Repulsive. The lawsuits and the pardons will fly.

4. It will be over early
It won't even be close. The few states where it is close, (VA, NC, WV) won't matter. The moment the polls in CA close, Kerry will be announced as the winner of the election.

Bush has no hope.

5. I think we will.....
The key states are Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida. If Kerry takes 3 of those states, which we should know something by 10:00 EST, he'll probably win the election.

BUT it's not just about those two states.

Kerry must also win Wisconsin...Either that or NM and IA (though maybe Richardson and Vilsack can both deliver their respective states).

Hopefully he'll win all three, Arkansas, Colorado, Virginia...basically some other states that will have the outcome rely on one or two states.

Hopefully we'll know that Kerry has won both Ohio and Florida. This election will be over VERY early then.
