Appeal to Evangelicals: Think Before You Vote
To the tens of millions of Evangelical Christians who are expected to vote solidly for George W. Bush, a Messenger of God, I appeal for reflection.
Although George Bush claims divine intervention behind his invasion and occupation of Iraq, can you actually imagine Jesus Christ approving of such a thing? Christ was a man of peace, preaching brotherly love; nowhere in the New Testament will you find a single phrase or action that would support a war waged for reasons that are no longer defendable. Instead, Christ would be on the side of the warrior's victims: 100,000 Iraqi civilians - half of them women and children - who have died since the invasion, mostly as a result of air strikes by coalition forces.
These figures, just released, are from the first reliable study of the death toll by Iraqi and US public health experts. For me, anyone who votes for the authors of this slaughter has, like their leaders, turned their back on the Bible. They are letting false prophets manipulate the teachings of Christ. It is time for some of that Christian compassion we hear about but don't see.
