Deception in Der Gropenator's/CA GOP's Voter Guide
I got Der Gropenator's guide to CA ballot propositions, and read it as my doctor is always trying to get me to raise my blood pressure. At first, I was just giggling at this:

--
63 NEW TAX AND STATE BUREAUCRACY
Governor Schwarzenegger’s Analysis
Proposition 63 is good intentioned{SIC}, but it will only make the
challenges we face with our budget and California’s economy
worse. Until California’s fiscal health is fully restored we must take care
to not overreach in ways that threaten our fragile economic recovery.
We also must be sure not to take piecemeal approaches to solving
health care related issues in California.

Proposition 63 will not contribute one cent to education or
dealing with the budget crisis. Instead, Proposition 63 will create
a new tax and government bureaucracy, making our already bad budget
situation even worse.
---

Bad grammar always makes me giggle, especially when used to explain how something will or won't help education.

Then it occurred to me that I didn't know what Prop 63 is, so I went to the official California Voter's Guide at http://www.voterguide.ss.ca.gov/propositions/prop63-title.htm and lo and behold, it has nothing to with the budget or education:

Proposition 63

Mental Health Services Expansion, Funding.
Tax on Personal Incomes Above $1 Million. Initiative Statute.

Provides funds to counties to expand services and develop innovative programs and integrated service plans for mentally ill children, adults and seniors.
<...>
Imposes additional 1% tax on taxpayers' taxable personal income above $1 million to provide dedicated funding for expansion of mental health services and programs.

Gee ... I wonder why Der Gropenator and the CA GOP are against this proposition ...?

3. CA needs more mental help $$
The guy who was arrested for stalking Debbie Gibson is a regular on her newsgroup, and has told us a lot about how California (where he lives) isn't doing what it should for the mentally ill. He has often said he wants to be institutionalized, but they won't put him away because of the cost. He fears he'll either commit suicide or hurt somebody he gets angry at, and he was even homeless for a while.

What people like the Gropenator need to realize is that it's not just the mentally ill who are put at risk by insufficient funding. The Repukes ought to stretch their selfishness enough to realize that a mentally ill person might hurt *them* one day.

But wait, that would assume that the Repukes realize they're mortal, and are capable of being hurt. They think they're omnipotent, and nothing's ever going to happen to them. It only happens to "the other guy" because he didn't have enough "personal responsibility". Bullshit!
