New Battleground: Hawaii
Cheney to Make Visit to Hawaii on Sunday

Associated Press 7:51 AM ET October 29, 2004

By PETE YOST

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - Making a major detour on the campaign trail, Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday night will rally voters in Hawaii where just two Republicans have ever won the state in a presidential race. Gov. Linda Lingle, Hawaii's first Republican governor in four decades, said the Cheney appearance is a response to polls showing Bush and John Kerry neck and neck, a remarkable turn of events in a state that Democrat Al Gore won by 18 percentage points in 2000.

Hawaii politics are in a state of flux. Lingle cashed in on widespread voter discontent with an entrenched Democratic power structure. The state Legislature is still Democratic, although Lingle has been campaigning hard to change that, and Republicans may at least pick up enough House seats to keep Democrats from overriding her vetoes.

But there are also factors in Kerry's favor. Democratic Sen. Daniel Inouye cites anger over the deployment of a disproportionate number of National Guard troops from Hawaii, the state's highest-in-the-nation gasoline prices and Bush's support for gun legislation. Now as Election Day approaches, Al Gore is coming to Hawaii to appear with Kerry's daughter Alexandra on Friday for a get-out-the-vote rally. To Northwestern University political science professor Benjamin Page, Cheney's trip to Hawaii "seems like an odd use of his time."

4. One reason Hawaii is in play - Crystal Meth Amphetamine
The facist regime traded a mellow Marijuana culture for a violent Crystal Meth one. Ice is an epidemic in Hawaii, thanks to the Narcs of Operation Green Harvest.

The gas prices are a constant topic of discussion there. Also the unemployment rate is the lowest in the nation so the economic appeal has to be focused on the quality of jobs and incomes. The GOP hopes to make inroads with the tax cut appeal under the guise of attracting more business through tax incentives. National security is of course a high topic of debate there too.

7. Has nothing to do with election...
Gets him out of the news cycle regarding Halliburton.

He won't get into Hawaii until tonight (local time). Might be interviewed - say something like its Kerry's fault and they'll show it for half a day on Saturday.

Halliburton is the reason, disguised as "turning the corner". Shills will say "the president's gaining".

The prez is not gaining, he's feigning.

19. Agreed, this will be the last time Cheney can take a vacation...
on the public dole.

I'm surprised the White House didn't come out and say something like "Wow, the French Riviera and Monte Carlo polls look close! C'mon prominent GOP leaders, get over there and shore up the vote. Here's some "walking around" money to cover your expenses!

15. The ONLY Thing That Concerns Me About This
Considering I'm POSITIVE HI is not even close, is that they use the electronic machines there and they are planning a massive fraud to steal HI. Since HI was considered so safe, there has not been much attention, and they might feel they can steal it under the radar through massive electronic fraud and the bogus polls coming out of HI are cover for this fraud.

Did anyone here read the news? The Kerry campaign was concerned enough by the closeness of the race to do a pretty large ad buy there. The Bush campaign is hoping for an upset there. They have low unemployment and seem equally divided between Bush and Kerry.

Are only trolls allowed access to this information? Hope not.

Cheney, Gore
headed here
With Hawaii close, political
heavyweights are campaigning
for the state's four electoral votes

By Richard Borreca
http://starbulletin.com/2004/10/29/news/index1.html

Within a matter of hours yesterday, it was announced that Vice President Dick Cheney, former Vice President Al Gore and Alexandra Kerry, a daughter of Sen. John Kerry, will all campaign in Honolulu this weekend.

Gov. Linda Lingle confirmed yesterday that internal GOP polling reflected polls in Hawaii, including the statewide Honolulu Star-Bulletin/KITV4 poll, that showed Bush leading Kerry by 1 percentage point. With the race for president virtually tied in several states, Hawaii could tip the balance, Lingle said.

"Because we have such a small population, it is easy to overlook us, but not anymore. ... Everyone is predicting that it could come down to our state," Lingle said.

Hawaii has four electoral votes.

"The polls opened a lot of eyes; no vote is unimportant," said Brickwood Galuteria, Hawaii Democratic Party chairman.
