October Surprise: Assault on Fallujah? Dominate Monday's news cycles?
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=612064§ion=news

Is this timed to wipe the news pages on Monday, especially if it is full of shock and awe?

Personally I don't think so. I don't think the military would stand for being manipulated this way, but I could be wrong.

Either way, I don't think it works as an October surprise.

1. America's are numb to war stuff...
It won't work. I could see the fake terrorist working before any strikes in Iraq.

2. I don't think so.
The Iraqi "government" probably doesn't want that either. If there is such an attack, it would probably forever ruin those in that "government" in the eyes of the large majority of Iraqis. Their usefulness will have then ended.

3. Telling signs?
I thought Falluja would be in play, but I'm watching dubya on the stump and he's not as cocky as he usually is when he thinks he's got an ace in the hole......

If he gets really cocky and starts that bow-legged strut again, watch out.

4. Big damn risk if they do
I don't think Fallujah would fold up in a day, so it would be all news of attacks and injuries, etc. I think Americans are past the "don't change your vote during a war" thing. Those that believe that old nugget are already for Bush. The rest might see this as a ploy. And again, it's too late to start and finish anything before the election starts.

I found interesting Zogby's note that the undecideds are articulate people who are against the war but unsure of Kerry. If that's truly the case, then Bush will get no more votes from them regardless. That gives me hope.
