14. It's All But Too Late...

Rove tricks need a couple days to weasel their way through. Like a forged memo getting passed around then reported then "outed"...that takes time. Or attempting to pull bin Laden out of a hidey hole would smell so much of desperation politics the media now would be so cynical even Faux couldn't spin it. Also there's not many other tricks Bunnypants can do that would create that 5 point bump he'll need to cover the distorted polls Rove himself admits.

Rove and his henchmen thought Kerry would be "Gored" by now. He'd be labeled as a flip flopping traitor socialist...but, outside of his hive, those labels didn't stick. Kerry didn't roll over like Gore did. Kerry stayed his hand where needed and then built up an offense that Rove didn't expect.

Rove needs to control the news cycle...get the last word and the ultimate spin. Right now he's not able to do either. Any attack he tries now would come from being so off balance it would be easy to see and really backfire.

I expect tons of troubles at the polls if the election is close and the Repugnicans to work as hard as they can in supressing the minority vote, but the one vote they can't control...since they don't know where it's coming from...are the new registrations that we'll soon find out trumped the GOOP in LARGE numbers.

15. Perhaps Rove has finally been overmatched

I'm aware of the danger of being overconfident, but as some posters here have pointed out: Rove's successes, like Hitler's early triumphs, are due largely to his opponents being divided, taken off guard, and unable or unwilling to fight back.

When Hitler finally got hammered from all sides he proved unable to rise to the challenge, and in fact locked himself into counterproductive and ultimately self-destructive decisions. Rove may well be having the same problem. People who get too used to running the show often react clumsily and unintelligently when the reins are yanked from their hands. Many times they quickly self-destruct, as the examples of Joe McCarthy and Ross Perot illustrate.

Hitler's Germany easily beat up on the small nations of Europe but found itself overwhelmed by the combined might of the Soviet Union and United States. Some folks speculate that the CIA and FBI are behind the timely release of the recent stories on Al Qaaqaa and the Halliburton contracts. If true, I think it goes without saying that the CIA and FBI are far bigger enemies than even a bad boy like Karl Rove can tangle with.
