The media is finally taking on an attack dog role, they sense blood in the water. Nothing like blood in the water to excite both sharks and wolves. The pack mentality is working in our favor now. :bounce:

This guy will be promoted for coming out in front of the media today. That's the deal he cut with Rummy. Probably a Colonel or maybe even a General. The paperwork has probably already been signed.

35. The Major didn't lie
He only said that he moved tons of "conventional" weapons from a bunker somewhere in the same area as al ka ka or whatever it is. He didn't see any of the powder hmx type of explosives and he didn't see any iaea seals. He only moved things that were accessible and he was there before the video was taken by the nbc affiliate that shows the 101st at el ka ka opening and examining buildings containing hmx that were under iaea seal.

This was the dumbest press conference in history. It just made the Pentagon and Bush look like total dumb-asses.

plus they moved 200+ tons of materials & EQUIPMENT.

so 199 tons of heavy equipment, and 1 ton of materials that were NOT UNDER THE IAEA seal.

this was a clusterfuck.

not even FAUX is pushing this as an answer to their problem.

22. backfired BIG TIME
I wasn't sure whether to laugh, because it was so ridiculous, or to be angry at the whitewash.

He said that the weapons they removed were later 'destroyed in a fire' - question - wouldn't 200 tons of detonated HMX blow a huge crater miles in circumference? Or does it require a detonator to become fissile?

Anyway, it was a disgrace, and they're obviously trying to throw out a bunch of crap to disguise their incompetence.

30. Not a disaster... think about it.
Rove KNOWS his base, they jump on every morsel of info that helps them believe that Bush knows what the hell he's doing. When they first threw an unsubstantiated claim out there that the stuff was gone when we go there, Rove's sheep started repeating it as though it was gospel, then it was the Russians, so they started repeating that, then the Minnesota tape came out.. the sheep starting accusing the station of being Kerry supporters, then Bush claimed Kerry blamed the troops (when in fact Bush's surrogate, Rudy, did just that), so the sheep fell for that.

We're too intelligent. That's our trouble. Rove knows that WE know it's all bullshit. But he also knows, in his uncanny ability to understand the ignorant Bush voters, that ALL he has to do is throw a story out there... and they'll grasp onto to it faster than Bush on a pretzel. In Rove's case? This was a success. Of course, he didn't count on the press asking hard questions.. but he doesn't have to worry. He has FOX NEWS, which will tout this story as though it's the answer to all of this.

33. disagree. Freepers are losing it.
"Reporters are ripping-out the throats of Pentagon spokesman, Army Major on scene. There is not even a pretense of fairness from the press. They are tearing-into the spokesmen purely to help Kerry. Major reports that his unit removed about 200 tons of HE. Reporters are harshly demanding proof that any of this was part of the "missing explosives." DOD guy notes that there may be no more than 3 tons missing. Reporters, in turn, rip into both men, claiming that none of this explosive the Major removed is any of the "400 missing tons."
This news conference is turning into another bad day for Bush. Major says he is not qualified to say whether the ammo he removed is HMX or RDX. Why did they bring him to the conference in the first place? This is ugly and gives Kerry more film to use against Bush. WFT?"

How could anyone think that press conference did anything but reinforce what Kerry has been saying. They didn't know how to go to war, how to keep the peace, nor how to save our people or make us safer. They drag on Cap. Pearson out there who talks all military and most cannot understand one word and the Penatgon interpretor was there to clear up any so called misunderstandings. I felt sorry for Pearson but Bush was really shown to be lame and Pentagon probably wishes they had not held that news conference.

Major Pearson said they removed the explosives on the 13th, but the video by KSTP is dated the 18th and the bunkers are locked and still have the IAEA seals intact and the contents of those bunkers filled the entire bunker and were intact.

65. The Pentagon handler tried to spin everything
before he finally let the major speak. Clearly he didn't want the major to say too much, and he kept interrupting him and trying to spin it. The press zeroed in on this, and insisted on hearing from the major. Turns out that he and his unit were in the area five days BEFORE the video tape was made showing the stored explosives. They rounded up a lot of loose explosives, took them away and destroyed them. BUT he had no knowledge of any locked up explosive materials. This briefing was indeed a disaster, as it showed how eager the Pentagon is to find something that might end this story.
