Poll indicates Bush, Kerry about even in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE - President Bush and his Democratic opponent, John Kerry, are running about even in Wisconsin as Election Day approaches, a poll released Friday indicates.

The Badger poll of 545 likely voters taken Saturday through Wednesday showed the Republican president was preferred by 48 percent, Kerry by 45 percent and independent Ralph Nader by 3 percent, but the margin of error was listed as plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The poll was conducted by the University of Wisconsin Survey Center and sponsored by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Capital Times of Madison. "The picture in Wisconsin is of a complex, close race, where each side has strengths and weaknesses and where a victory for either side seems very possible," pollster G. Donald Ferree Jr. said.
