GOP Hate Mail - How low will these people go |
|
I recieved a letter from my doctor today. I was kind of concerned since this was an orthopedist I had seen over a year ago for a broken bone. Thinking that I had failed to pay a bill or something (young guy, no insurance) I ripped open the letter. Come to find out, it was a letter urging me to vote for a supreme court candidate here in West Virginia. Come to find out my grandmother and my father had both recieved letters from him (all former patients). I am furious! Using patient records to send out political propaganda is plain wrong. Secondly, it was almost threatening, basiclly saying if Warren McGraw gets re-elected here in WV your rates will go up.

3. Don't know if it's HIPAA |

If he gave out addresses to someone else to send out letters, that's against HIPAA. If he sent a letter to his patients on his own, he hasn't violated confidentiality. He might still not enjoy having his medical board look into it.

You can check with your state medical board to see if he's done something actionable.
