If you look at the graph below, you'll see that Bush gets a little boost in his approval ratings each time a terror threat emerges. What would you do, if you were a terrorist and wanted to help Bush win? Of course, you would do what seems to consistently work: make a threat right before he is up for re-election.

Therefore, it's obvious that Bin Laden is trying to help Bush.

He doesn't need an inutitive understanding of the American culture to know that his appearances help Bush; he only needs access to the Internets, and poll data -- that we Americans love to collect.

Before the tape even came out -- while we were still waiting for it -- the Freepers were saying "this is TERRIFIC for the president", etc, etc. They were simply giddy. They were treating it as a gift from the heavens -- it only takes a little pointing out that it wasn't a gift from the Heavens, but a gift from Osama, for them to combust in their own contradiction.
