Kerry will handle this one with ease (r.e. OBL)
I'd imagine that before the evening is out, John Kerry will be pointing at a camera and speaking directly to bin Laden, telling him (and the rest of the world) that he'll be relentless in hunting him down, to the corners of the earth, etc, etc.

Kerry doesn't even need to reference Bush, doesn't need to slam him. He just needs to act like he's already President and put the word out that OBL is as good as dead.

How could Bush possibly respond? Would he say, "Me too, I'll get him in my second term"? Would he claim that it's hard work? There's not a damned thing he can say.

Kerry can and will own this issue in an hour or so.

11. I'm sure Kerry is prepared for this
remember a lot of people were speculating that Bush would be trotting Bin Laden out in handcuffs right now. As it is he's free to make another statement. Osama doesn't scare us and he doesn't scare John Kerry. Furthermore, we have a score to settle with Osama Bin Laden and President Kerry will see that the job gets done.

12. the overall issue
plays to kerry.

*osama is still out there.
*it's been a kerry talking point for a long time, and now it gives kerry the chance to actually stand up and respond in a presidential matter, not to bush, but to bin laden.

i think it will get mucked up a bit by the RW media, but this can't work for shrubbie, especially after the debacle concerning the explosives...

13. excellent strategy !!
Kerry should also say that when America puts its full focus on capturing bin Laden, he will be captured ... he should say that bin Laden has run free since September 11 but his days are numbered ...

in the first days of the Kerry administration, the full weight of the American government will be brought to bear on this international outlaw ... the time for distractions has ended ... bin Laden will face swift justice under the new Kerry administration ...

there is nowhere he will be able to hide and no country will dare give him aid ... the new Kerry administration will see to that ...

15. as a post script
I see that several people are questioning the veracity of the tape. I haven't yet seen it myself, but whether the tape is authentic or fake, the point stands and Kerry looks all the better for it.

I just cannot wrap my mind around how this could possibly be good for the Bush administration, aside from the simpleminded approach that tries to convince the voter that OBL is afraid of a second Bush term. Bush already has the inbred vote wrapped up. This won't help.

Kerry senior adviser was on MSNBC - Kerry to issue statement

Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 03:54 PM by Jersey Devil
The advisor said Kerry will not let OBL "divide the nation". Kerry's message to obl, al qaeda and all terrorists is, "We will come after you, we will get you, we will destroy your organizations."
"We will not let the American people live in fear" - I hope that was an accurate quote

17. He should never talk directly to the enemy like that
but I'm sure the advisors knew that a long time ago. He should tell the American people that hunting Osama will be his top priority for national security or something along those lines.

He should say he won't be distracted from the real enemies.

Talk to the people who vote--not Osama.
