Could some one please explain to me ... |

why the people who cite terrorism as their impetus to vote for * usually live in places that have the most miniscule chance of ever being attacked ... but the major cities and most coastal states that could be targeted - including the ones that were attacked ... lean heavily democratic?

but the slower, more rote and predictable your life is, the greater the fear of having that pace and predictability disrupted...people hate change.
the ter'sts scare 'em because it might change their lives...

being from the Bible Belt, i think that the mentality of the people you refer to is Good/Evil-> No in betweens. Urbanites, east coaster, intellectuals, etc., allow more quantas of ambiguity. Bush jumped on the chance th couch things Us/Them Good/Evil, and that is powerfully resonating down here. Kerry never had the chance to say that in real time, unfortunately.
edit> keep in mind that many people here are buried in the same churchyard where they were baptized, so they stick to paternal figures in a way that is hard to fathom.

Urban areas, areas of where people tend to have a higher education; tend to lean Democratic.
Many rural places still lean Republican  ...
..but that will all change after they've had a taste of the Kerry Admistration ~~ :kick:

Where they live their chances of getting run down by a drunk driver are about 1,000 times greater than their chances of any terrorist related injury, yet they support an alcohalic for president, and don't insist on spending billions to stop drunk dirvers. Go figure!

masturbate. It would make them feel better instead of worse and we would have a sane president.
