In the last days left, I want Kerry to face abortion head on |
|
We have had here several threads about why Kerry is not leading big in some states, like Minnesota, and the replies were the abortion issue and, to a lesser extent, the gay marriage.
I would like Kerry to have ads running in Minnesota and in other battle ground states where this could be a deciding factor and to say something like that - and please add your suggestions:
We want all children to come to the world wanted and expected. But that's not the way things happen in real life. No one wants to have an abortion, and the best way to prevent unplanned pregnancies is by safe and effective birth control methods.
We cannot legislate social behavior; we had a disastrous results with prohibition 80 years ago. We cannot legislate strong, trusting bonds between parents and their children. We cannot even legislate lasting marriages. We certainly do not want anyone's religious beliefs to become a law. After all, there are some countries where an interpretation of a religious code of law mandates that adulterers be stoned to death.
But we can do our best to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies.
The Kerry administration will actively support and encourage the pharmaceutical industries to come with safe and effective methods of birth control.
The Kerry administration will actively support and encourage groups, worldwide, that educate men and women in handling their sexuality in a responsible manner and that educate men and women in family planning.
The Kerry administration will actively support and encourage adoption.
But, most of all, the Kerry administration will provide safe place for young, frightened and abused girls and women to seek counsel and support when they find themselves in a no win situation.
Since the days that humans discovered their sexuality, unplanned pregnancies presented urgent events that often resulted in tragic death of women. Outlawing basic human behavior will not prevent abortion; it will just make it worse, the way prohibition did 80 years ago. And the compassionate, yes, compassionate way to face unplanned pregnancies it to make our best that they do not happen but that if they do, that women are presented in clear, non-judgmental choices.

2. I'd like to seen an ad with a list of the actual names of birth control |
|
pills and devices that the fundies want outlawed.
How difficult would that be?

3. He Does Not Want to Mobilize the Church People Against Him |

any more than they already are.
Pro-choice voters already support Kerry.
