Nobody can even figure out whether it will help or hurt Bush, Neither can the general public. The spinmeisters will screw around with it for a while but by Sunday it'll be gone. If we're lucky, it won't have taken the 380 tons or the Bush desperation with it.

Well, Bush GOT his way and now that we have PROOF that OBL is alive, the explosives may be in OSAMA's hands.

So is Bush saying it is better for Osama to have the explosives and be on the run where he can kill Americans than it is for Saddam to have the explosives and have them constantly being monitored by the U.N.?

I haven't seen this tape but I'm not convinced any of the OBL tapes are real except the ones during Tora Bora and the timing is just a bit too convenient for my liking. I wouldn't put it past BushCo using one old tape to produce many more to be used when news goes bad for them. Like now. More ka ka on Al Qa Qaa, bring it on!

The neo-cons really do seem to think that he is in Fallujah. And they have built him up to be some major player, now officially linked to al Qaeda. (Perhaps "Now with al Qaeda!" would be better. )

But I appreciate your cynicism. Certainly this would be a fine "setup", complete with the "Bush tried to suppress it" subthread to give the superficially suspicious grounds to doubt no more.

And it is entirely possible that the neo-cons will claim between now and the election to have captured or killed one or the other (OBL or al-Zarqawi -- or some other terrorist)... or both. But since "killed" is easier to claim and harder to verify, I am leaning in that direction myself.

The neo-cons have to run on tricks, ploys and deceptions -- they don't have anything positive to run on... unless you happen to be one of that small elite that actually benefits from their actions.

OBL tape is like the ribbons vs medals discussion, the Cambodia distraction, the "shove it" comment, the Mary Cheney comment, and the global test outrage. It's all BS meant to keep the base from thinking.

It just underscores how little Bush has done for our security. OBL is still making video tapes and threatening us 3 years after 9/11, that isn't good and it needs to be addressed. Plus this can tie right in to the weapons story:

If Bush wouldn't have dropped the ball with OBL and went into Iraq, those missing explosives would still be under the surveillance of the IAEA as they had been for over a decade. As a result, OBL is still on the loose and hasn't been brought to justice for 9/11 and we might have freed up some explosives for him at the same time. Not to mention the 1000+ troops that are dead, 10,000 injured and countless Iraqi civilians.

19. I always thought at least 1 (Fat Osama) was probly fake,

but that doesn't really change anything in terms of the effect of the tape on the election, unless you believe that the deception is going to come to light in the next 4 days.

Or at least that was where I was at in my thinking when I posted this. Now, however, there seems to be a report that Shrub forces or somebody edited the tape. Now, THAT could blow up in their faces big-time, especially with the public having been pushed into thinking about deception by that stupid photoshopped pic in the ad.

21. Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think I was going crazy...

I realize newbie posts are suspect this close to the election but as someone with experience in multimedia software, I now how easy it is to tamper with video. Photoshop is even easier. This is especially true if there isn't time to check for authenticity.

Having said that it turns out the US embassador to Quatar put pressure on AJ not to release and the published version has been edited, by who nobody seems to know.

After Rathergate I've learned to be wary of news that sounds too good to be true.
