The gloves are off. Bush fucking smeared Kerry on al Qeada just now

(At live rally) They have now decided to run with this in maximum political mode "covered" by Rove's claim that Kerry started it (which is narrowly true, but more a first-blush mis-step than a campaign decision) We should take our cues from the Kerry campaign, but it's looking impossible for them to stay above the fray if Bush goes rabid. And he will.

Funny that they would let Bush get ugly about the OBL tape if they were as far ahead in their internal polls as they claim...

7. Nothing new, attack wise. But in context of events, ugly.
I was shocked... I thought they would at least TRY to act presidential.

9. A mis-step in terms of tone, not specific substance
They didn't have their act together right at that moment and it sounded very politiciany. The statement at the airport was perfect, and they had clearly decided in the interim to be presidential and stately. So it seems the campaign itself thought the first comments a mis-step.

14. When Kerry was on a Larry King panel about a year ago,
some looney tune caller said that they army should be using flame throwers and nukes (paraphrasing) and Kerry responded with something to the effect that he thought the troops were doing just fine at Tora Bora to shut up the caller.

Shrub has used it before to imply that Kerry agreed with his policy, etc.

10. Since the campaign dropped it immediately I'm not alone in that analysis
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 07:01 PM by troublemaker
It was bad form for the first comment to be critical. Everyone knows that and the media has been very good about letting Kerry substitute the airport tape as his official comment.

No harm done because Rove would have seized on some excuse. The point is that Rove has decided to go ugly negative on al qeada related matters in the campaign even AFTER the tape -- no truce, no decent interval.

12. Funny we don't hear shrubby being "reassuring"
I guess he never got the hang of being presidential.
Damn, even after the Pet Goat comment, the shrub can do nothing but attack and blame Kerry? Talk about taking your eye off the ball!
