Poll Reveals Missouri As Battleground State

Poll Reveals Missouri As Battleground State

One week before Election Day, a new KMBC 9 News and Kansas City Star poll revealed that President George W. Bush has a narrow lead over Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in Missouri.

Bush continues to lead in Missouri, which is no surprise, but for a couple of weeks, there's been a rumbling that Kerry might take the state.

...

The Kerry campaign has not advertised in Missouri since the Democratic Convention last summer.

...

There are two important things to remember about the numbers in this poll.

First, the president is below the 50-percent mark, which is a sign of concern for any incumbent candidate.

The other is the 6-percent undecided figure.

Political experts believe that undecided votes this late usually break to the challenger, or they just sit the election out.

3. I think we are going to win MO.
If we are within 4% we will more than make up for that with breaking undecideds and turnout. Democrats are far more motivated this year than in 2000. And there is a massive ground operation going on.

23. You know why Kerry will win????

That crowd is HUGE. And I'd bet my right nut that they didn't drag a single Republican out of it. Kerry is not afraid to talk to those who are philisophically opposed to him. He is better able to reach soft-Republicans and swing voters than Bush is!!!!

9. GOTV and Missouri is blue

http://www.laweekly.com/ink/04/49/powerlines-meyerson.p...

ORLANDO, Florida — I have seen the present, and it works — I think.
I have spent the past week observing the official Democratic Party and
unofficial 527 field operations in the battleground states of Ohio and
Florida. And I have found something I’ve never before seen in my 36 or
so
years as a progressive activist and later as a journalist: an
effective, fully
functioning American left.

Those liberal organizations that already knew how to do politics — the
AFL-CIO, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) and a few others — are
doing it better than they have before. Those liberal groups that stayed
aloof
from elections or phumphered ineffectually are now playing the game
like
seasoned pros. New organizations have arisen to mobilize sometime
voters; the
largest of them — America Coming Together (ACT) — will have 12,000
staffers in each of the three biggest battleground states
(Pennsylvania, Ohio
and Florida) on Election Day.

The AFL-CIO inaugurated this program in three states last year — not
coincidentally, Florida, Ohio and Missouri. The goal was to open a line
of
communication with the nonunion white working class, and by the
evidence of
the AFL-CIO’s numbers and my Garfield Heights walk, the goal has been
reached and then some. The three Ohio canvass operations have recruited
541,000 members — a clear majority of whom support John Kerry,
according to
the federation’s polls. In Garfield Heights, fully half the persons
listed
on the SEIU’s walk sheets were Working America members (the other half
were
either regular union members or retirees). Though it was just
midafternoon, a
number of working-age men were home. Asked what issue mattered to them
most,
they said jobs; asked their candidate preference, they said Kerry. Take
Ohio’s unemployment rate, add the activities of ACT, Working America
and
other such groups, and you understand why this is one Bush-2000 state
that
won’t be Bush-2004.

Here in Orlando, ACT is getting out the vote in the black and Latino
communities, while the LCV targets more upscale white suburbs. The
Sierra Club
plays the LCV’s role in Tampa, where it has a thriving chapter. “On the
environmental side, we never figured out how to work together before,”
says
Allan Oliver, who heads the LCV’s Orlando operation. “Now, I’m on the
phone to the Sierra Club every week; we say, how can we do this
better?” The
527s even share their private polling — a common-sense pooling of
knowledge
that was utterly unthinkable before the prospect of four more years of
George
W. Bush concentrated the progressive mind.

Missouri DUers: Please, call all the potential Kerry voters you know.
Call them before and on Election Day to urge them to get out and vote Democratic!

My fellow Missourians, we need volunteers.
Your country and state need you!

Zogby says that undecided's break late AGAINST the incumbent. Mix that in with the inherent bias in the polls and this looks good for Kerry!!!!

27. It is unbelievable how hard people are working and how motivated
that they are. We want it more than they do and we will win. The last time we had a strong Democratic turnout was in 92. This feels so much stronger, look for massive turnout and a nationwide LANDSLIDE.

32. I hope we carry MO -- but I have some concerns
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 05:48 AM by Gore1FL
I have a new polling place -- different from 2002 which was different from 2000.

I drove by Saturday to find it -- hardly any parking, and frankly, if anyone shows up there won't be all that much room inside.

While I am not going to say factually that something is up, my gut sure leads me in that direction.

I live in an area of St. Louis (County) that has a large number of African Americans.

Nov 2000 it took over three hours to vote and two were waiting outside in fairly cool weather. This does not look better.

36. It's no accident. The GOP is trying to stop African-Americans from voting.

We can still win here, but it will not be easy.
The good news is that we should be better equipped to deal with GOP moves that go beyond unethical to illegal.
