Listen to Daily Kos's 'Perspective' advice

From a look at the diaries and comment threads, people are a little exercised about the Bin Laden tapes. Stop and think about this.
It's the Friday before the election, and here are the two leading non-campaign stories: Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose and threatening the U.S., and tons of explosives are missing from Iraq and presumed to be in the possession of terrorists and/or the insurgents fighting our troops in Iraq. Regardless of what a shoddy Reuters story may say, there is no way it helps Bush for the American voters to be reminded that Bin Laden is still on the loose. Those voters who are already voting for Bush may be all atwitter because of this tape, but the cynics who don't much like either candidate--and these folks are disproportionately included in the shrinking pool of undecided voters--won't be convinced that we should reelect George Bush because he's the guy who's been President for the last three years of our failure to capture Bin Laden.

The Bin Laden tape does not help Bush. It probably has no significant effect, but if it does, that effect is probably negative toward Bush. The Bin Laden tape does not present any reason for us to be concerned in terms of the election. Our concern should be that Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose, and we need to elect a President who will make it a priority to capture Bin Laden.

So, get to that phone bank, put on your walking shoes, and get out there and do the GOTV. George W. Bush has ignored Osama Bin Laden. For that reason, for the next couple days we need to ignore Osama Bin Laden and train our attention on getting rid of George W. Bush. Then, we will have a President who doesn't ignore the threats to our national safety.

Out task is to talk to voters and convince them to vote for John Kerry and Democrats from the top of their ballot to the bottom. Get out there, and savor the feeling of knowing we're on the verge of a win.

4. That's a bit like putting the pressure on the preacher to grow the church.
(something I am very familiar with!) Kerry is busy, conveying his message. The media may or may not play along. Therefore, it is up to US to communicate this message to as many people as possible.

Sure, the preacher's important - she or he is the leader, but if your flock ain't with ya, you aren't going to gain any new supporters. And INACTIVITY is our worst enemy.

GOTV!!! PLEASE!!! GOTV!!!

5. Don't understand
Is it not up to the preacher to stop the flock from fleeing the church? and if they do, I would think it the preacher's lack, and not the flock. Why would the flock be not with you?

Why would anyone try to knock themselves out to spread the message when the leader is not doing so him/her self?

If Kerry wins, we will be paying him to do the job we expect from him. I demand he show leadership right now.

6. All I'm saying is that we have to do OUR part, too...and not be lazy.
Some churches are systemically dysfunctional. They go through pastor after pastor, waiting for the one who will make miracles happen. Real, effective change can only happen when THE PEOPLE get involved in the process.

I think that in the past, we Dems have been guilty of sitting back and waiting for "the perfect candidate" (like "the perfect pastor"). When Bush stole the election, we got off our collective butts and said "Never again."

Kerry ain't perfect - and I don't expect him to be perfect. I see it as part of my job as a citizen to motivate others to elect him. If I just sit behind my computer, what have I done to further the cause of evicting shrub?

I've been to Kerry and Edwards rallys. Believe me, they ARE getting their message out, but it isn't getting play by the media. So what we need to do is get it out ourselves...and I will do whatever I can to make that happen.

3. How could the appearance of the healthy, composed OBL help Bush?
Did anyone forget the US has enemies, with Cheney and Bush working to scare us with the wolves daily? It merely reminds us of how Bush failed to catch OBL. We have enemies, who Bush can't handle. Vote Kerry.
