I decided to volunteer for the Kerry/Edwards legal team. After several calls, I have been assigned to Florida and to a hot zone in Broward County. I have to take an online training course and attend a live training session on Sunday.

If ever the voters in Broward County needed an ADVOCATE to help their votes come in, it is now. With each new voter registration I realize how precious this right to vote is. Thank you for volunteering your time. I know you will be firm, fair and fearless. I voted absentee in FL in a different county. I am working on the election in NC.

34. Time is short and so I just finished DNC voter ed class for lawyers

To be part of the legal team, everyone has to take an on-line course. Since I have to catch a plane early tomorrow afternoon to get to Broward in time for some additional training, I have spent the last hour of so doing the on line course, taking a test and printing a copy of the official Kerry Edwards Voter Manual for Florida to take with me for reading on the plane.

I have additional training and a briefing on Sunday in Broward county to make sure that I am ready for the fun on Tuesday. Luckily, my wife was able to get me airline reservations, a hotel room and a rental car on short notice.

Thanks for the good wishes. I will do my best. I may not be able to post until I get back and so keep up the good work.

BTW, my son voted in his first election this week and is thrilled that I am going to Florida. He can not wait to tell his poly science profs about my trip.

I have some folks in Palm Beach that want to form a team to capture precinct totals. We'd do it in Broward as well if we could get the coverage.

We already have the Palm Beach precinct database set up and just need volunteers to go get the totals at the end of the day.

I'd be surprised, based on media reporting, if there were not enough folks out there to help with this.

Good luck down here.. its a fun place to visit, but I hate living here :)

FYI, the early voting places down here (the 4 we've driven by) look alot more like K/E campaign rallys than polling places. 200-300 people in line at each place, TONS of K/E signage (with people holding / waving / etc) - Tons of 'audience' interaction with the sign wavers.. its actually a really wild thing, but I'm loving it.

Seriously, though - enjoy Broward.. and if you want to know some decent places to pick up some chow, lemme know :)
