Will anyone pray on election day? |

Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 10:33 PM by RummyTheDummy
I'm not deeply religious, but I have had a few times in my life when I've taken a moment to pray. This is one of those times.
(this has nothing to do with the OBL tape. I've been thinking about it for months)

But I don't like to ask God for anything...I feel it's up to us. As Lincoln said, the question is not, is God on our side, but are we on God's side?

On both sides. But you know, I truly view this, as corny as it sounds, as good versus evil. That may be over simplifying. But I'm tired of soldiers coming home in bags. I'm tired of Iraqi children being butchered. I would like to think the God I pray to would care about that on some level.

I was just going to post that quote. The first time I heard it was when Edwards used it during one of the debates. It's perfect.:) I also think it's what separates us from the * type fundies.

I do all the time, quietly, to myself.
Did it before the debates, and it didn't seem to hurt.

I pray for Kerry, Edwards, their families and their campaign every single day. And I throw in a shout out to all the Dem candidates, their families and their campaigns. Which leads me to praying for our country, which leads me to the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, the whole Middle East, Russia and our troops overseas. Then there's my family, friends, neighbors and enemies.
It takes me a while. LOL! I'm such a Democrat, I just can't leave anyone out! I do it in the morning and sometimes my breakfast gets cold.

Like you, I'm not deeply religious, but every free moment is spent reflecting and praying.
It's not for me, but for the future of humanity.

I'm an atheist and a recoveree from deep Southern-fried fundamentalism. I grew up not far from $hrub's favorite institution of higher learning, Bob Jones University. Even my devout Baptist and Methodist kinfolks refer to that place as "Jesus Tech."
However, as you pray, rest assured the non-believers out here will be hoping our butts off!

14. I'm pretty much like that, too. |

I pray off and on under my breath and in my mind all the time, several times a day. Either it's for a moment of time when I feel I need help or I think someone or some situation needs help.
The last debate, I couldn't bear to watch it while it was live (watched it taped on c-span) but I prayed instead. This is really stupid but I tried to find uplifting music. I managed to find an old Aretha Franklin gospel CD and then I found that old song by Billy Gilman, One Voice. That song brings tears to my eyes! If you know it, you would know what I'm talking about.

I ask God to keep our Nation, soldiers, and my family safe. But what we make out of this election is up to us not God.

10. I was praying tonight! Made the mistake of listening to Larry King. |
|
Laura Ingram was on, and As I heard her speak, I folded my hands and prayed, "Dear God, please guide the hearts, minds and fingers of the voters in our Country during this election. The people in control now are not being good or honest to anyone, and they're killing people and harming people for their own personal gain. Please help us make things right."
I'm not a terribly religious person either, but when I feel like I'm in trouble, I always say I'm sorry because I always seem to only pray when I'm scared or in trouble, but please help me. I'm scared now, for my country and myself. We're in trouble and we need help.
