Tinfoil hat: bin Laden tape a plant to "co-opt" our talking points?

Now remember when they accused Howard Dean of being a "mouthpiece for the terrorists" simply because he repeated something they said when he was on some pundit show? Remember how humungofuckingridiculous that bullshit was? Now people know I rarely put on the tinfoil hat, but what if this thing is some plant to accomplish this:

- We can't talk about how ridiculous it is to say "they hate us for our freedom" because bin Laden said it too.
- We can't talk about how Bush* lies because bin Laden said it too.
- We can't talk about the Bush* family's business dealings because bin Laden said stuff about that.
- We can't criticize the USA PATRIOT Act because bin Laden said it was oppressive.
- We can't talk about election theft in Florida because bin Laden accused Jeb of it.
- We can't talk about "My Pet Goat" because bin Laden made fun of Bush* for it.

Personally I don't give a fuck if someone points out this shit to me because these particular things are true no matter who says it, so they can just eat a bowl of dicks and choke on it. Just be prepared for this ass-rash talking point the next few days, and be prepared to shout down anyone who dares to fuck with you on it. Don't be afraid to smack the shit out of them verbally, because they know right from wrong on it and are choosing to do wrong.

I just thought it was convenient for them, but in a really ass-hatified right-wing talking-point way. I wonder if each news outlet had it translated it themselves, or if the translation was given by one central source. I mean, another possibility is it's a real tape with the usual bin Laden stuff, but translated differently.

5. I enjoy a good visit to tinfoilhat land myself, as far as...

reading the theories, etc., but I'm not usually a proponent of them, and I tend to discount the wilder ones, do my sourcechecking, etc.

This just has a phony tang to it. The way it's written, the things he says. Like... it's like something designed to piss people off, or elicit a certain kneejerk reaction.

4. Interesting thought. I would've thought it's safe to talk about

any of these subjects so long as no reference to OBL is made. If two people observe the same thing and report it very similarly, it just might be true. Sure would like to see some sort of evidence that the WH provided this tape. (like does Cronkite have any articulable reasons to believe the source is the WH?)

Maybe Edwards ought to try talking about one of the same weaknesses that OBL pointed out and see what happens.

Republicans like nothing more than a scenario where they don't have to attack a person, or the content of a message, but where they can attack the method, delivery, timing or other components of the message.

You're exactly right. We say, "The Patriot Act is a terrible travesty of justice," and they say -- "Osama said that -- do you believe what OBL believes?"

They neither have to address the message or look like a jerk for personally attacking the messenger. They are able to criticize some other element of the message.

I believe, that this is RULE NUMBER ONE in the Rove handbook, right next to "the false delimma" (you're either with us or against us). They've already tried this with Michael Moore -- any time a dem brings up "Bandar Bush" they flail like chickens and go "cluckcluckcluckcluck --has Michael Moore's EXTREMISM taken over the DEMOCRATIC party -- GAWD?" And you heard that toothy bitch say that Moore was "giving aid and comfort to the enemy," just because both Moore and OBL happened to notice that Bush sat there like a dumb asshole, while our country was under attack.

Very astute, indeed. Even if they didn't plan this intentionally, make NO MISTAKE -- they will attempt to do EXACTLY what you've just described. I bet they're all gathered 'round the cauldron talking about this same thing, right now.

(and I think it's an interesting theory), the happy thing is that it doesn't matter, it was too late to achieve the goal.

All Kerry has to do now is go POSITIVE, lay out as many of his PLANS as possible and POUNCE on denouncing OBL.
