The Environment & The Death Penalty
I've been thinking about this for a few days now.

What is the one issue that clearly favors Kerry that was never brought up during the debates that most Americans agree with?

What is the one issue that clearly favors Bush that was never brought up during the debates that most Americans agree with?

Answers: The Environment & the Death Penalty.

I'm wondering if there wasn't some secret agreement to keep these issues off the table this election year.

Kerry is a true stud on the environment. His environmental record is second to none in the Senate. It is arguable the one issue that he's been most consistent on throughout his career. NOBODY would argue his credentials as an environmentalist, and for those who don't know where Bush or Kerry stand on the environment, that could swing a lot of people his way.

But it was never really brought up during the campaign or the debates.

Bush is a death-penalty loving fool. But, unlike Al Gore in 2000 - he is now running against someone who is totally against the death penalty. Which, if it was ever brought up the debate, would have been a totally fascinating topic of discussion. A seriously pro-death penalty candidate against a seriously anti-death penalty candidate.

On both of those issues the differences between them couldn't be more stark.

But they were never brought up.

I'm wondering if there was some secret deal worked out to take those issues off the table, or whether they were just overlooked by the debate moderators.

Bush has a horrible record on the environment, but Kerry would have been vulnerable to attacks by Bush on his anti death penalty stance. I'm not saying that because I believe that the death penalty is right, just because from what I've read, more than 50% of the country believes in it.

I'm shocked those issues were never brought up. I'm just curious if anyone else was shocked by it either. Maybe not so much the environment, but definitely the death penalty. I would have thought for sure that Bush would have brought it up sometime during the campaign, but he never did. It NEVER became an issue and I'm curious why.

Anyone wanna take a swipe at this?

1. They just were not going to be voting issues....
and the people you would capture by pushing either one would be captured by one of the other issues that were pushed.
