Kerry campaign threatens to throw FOX off their plane

KERRY CAMPAIGN BLOWS UP AT FOX, THREATENS TO THROW FOX OFF THE PLANE, BACKS OFF

KERRY CAMP OBJECTS TO 4:00pm FOX NEWS SEGMENT: ALAN COLMES: "It's not like he had a Kerry-Edward bumper sticker in his cave." NEIL CAVUTO: "But he's all but doing that, isn't he? I thought I saw a button."

KERRY CAMP ASKS FOR RETRACTION, DOES NOT GET ONE… JOHN SASSO BLOWS UP AT FOX PRODUCER ON PLANE: "Is that the one? Is that her? I want her off the plane tomorrow. I'm not kidding."

COMM. DIR. STEPHANIE CUTTER BACKTRACKS: "He was wrong to say that. We jumped all over him for it."

----------------------------------------------------------------

I find this troubling (Washington Post article) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6365600/

Some Democrats held out hope that the reappearance of bin Laden would remind Americans that Bush still had not caught the arch-villain, and lend legitimacy to Kerry's argument that Bush allowed the United States to get distracted in Iraq. But Republicans argued — and some Democrats privately agreed — that the videotape would revive Americans' fears of terrorism, an issue on which Bush is strongest.
Kerry aides appeared visibly alarmed aboard the candidate's plane as they planned a response to the tape's airing. One prominent Democrat speculated that for swing voters who have not followed the election closely, bin Laden's reappearance may well boost Bush.

Perception is reality, the Kerry camp needs to be acting strong and assured.
And who the fuck is a "prominant Democrat" saying it will boost Bush? Even if they are afraid of that, why tell the media?

12. Not useful for the campaign to do this
Fox is not the story. Even OBL is not the story. For Kerry and his supporters, the story is George W. Bush. The story is that Bush has failed. Failed to protect us, failed to guide us to prosperity, failed to preserve our good name in the world. Anything that gets us off that message, no matter how emotionally satisfying, is counter-productive.

They need to focus on the main target. OBL was able to make this tape because Bush forgot about killing him in order to wage a disastrous war in Iraq. Hammer that, and then, hammer it again. And again. And again.

Fuck Fox. The best revenge on them is to win on Tuesday. Nothing else matters.

37. Because Fox is not the story
No matter how angry they and we are with Fox - and even if the anger is justified - outside of the Kerry campaign and DU - nobody in America gives a shit! That kind of thing is "inside baseball" of no interest to people who may want to know why they should replace an incumbent with a senator probably half of the country had never heard of before this year.

We get so worked up about media bias that we think everyone else is as furious. But they're not. For the Kerry campaign to expend any energy on this - especially in public - distracts them when they can least afford to be distracted.

Yes, complain to Fox - in private. Make it clear to them that, if and when Kerry wins, they are going to be in a difficult position when it comes to access to the new administration. They won't like that.

But going public with it, to me, just takes the focus of George Bush's failures.

48. We should be concerned about media bias ...

See everyone on the right believes the media has a left wing bias. And somehow, they think we're all 100% satisfied with the coverage that CNN provides. This has come from 30 years of "lobbying the refs".

At the same time, our guys don't lobby. They have a "better than that" attitude that dictates they must use a knife when the other guy is using a gun!!!

Sorry, but the left needs to point squarely to the media and point out it's bias towards conservatives!!!!!

47. Big dog should HAMMERING Bush ...

Clinton needs to talk about the plots HE foiled and the nebulous intelligence he received. He needs to talk about the institutional initiatives he took to "shake the trees" of any more information and get the word out to FBI agents and border patrol to be on the lookout.

I 100% believe that if Gore was president, 9/11 would NEVER have happened!!! Gore would have responded to a terrorist warning in the SAME way that Clinton did:
* Gore would have appointed an Attorney General who did not consider pornography a higher priority than counter-terrorism.
* That attorney general would never make a statement like "I don't want to hear any more about this goddam terrorism!!!"
* Gore would have MET with his counter-terrorism czar instead of taking the longest vacation in presidential history.
* Gore would have had a written statement from EVERY FBI and Border agent regarding what THEY had done or ARE doing to catch terrorists.

And you know what, Kerry would do this too because he would NOT have been completely obsessed with Stem Cells and Missle Defense!!!! He fish rots from the head down. And our head doesn't even have a head!!! He doesn't think, he re-acts. He's not pro-active, he's re-active!!!!

25. I am going to vent here. Your post makes no sense at all and it seems
to be geared towards doing exactly what the Bush campaign wants, demoralizing the base. I'm not buying that you are so concerned. Read Josh Marshall tonight. I will be the first to admit that he pisses me off from time to time, particularly his involvement with the Condit debacle but he is on the money this time. This is a ruse from the Bush campaign to throw the Kerry campaign off their stride and stop their momentum. Posts like this contribute to their strategy knowingly or unknowingly..but now that you know I am sure we won't see any other demoralizing threads posted by Jezebel, right?

point. I am saying I am concerned that the Kerry campaign is allowing journalist to see them concerned (according to the WaPo article) and that Democratic insiders are claiming it may help Bush. My point is even if they are concerned they need to not let that be seen. They need to project strength. We all do, regardless if we are worried or not.
And that is exactly why I added the quotes from the Post to my original post. I did not think it deserved it own post, but it ticked me off to read Democrats saying things and acting around the journalist as if this could hurt Kerry.

36. Nope, I don't see it that way. This is a great tactical move if they do
it.

It puts the focus on Kerry being tough, and not taking shit from the likes of Fox News, and not allowing ANYONE to question his patriotism and fly around the country on his dime.

This MUST be done.

This is not a demoralizing thread.

46. Unfair to Republicans ...

You're all looking at this the wrong way. You see this is inherently unfair to Republicans. The FACTS makes it impossible to campaign in an honest, respectable manner.

The ONLY way for the game to be fair is for Republicans to neutralize facts by LYING about them. Or in this case, making some outrageous hyperbole disguised as a "joke" but delivered in all seriousness!!!!

The other thing they have to do is tell only small portions of stories. Otherwise the stories would all be biased against them. In this case, Bin Laden commented how shocked he was that there were no military response to 4 simultaneous hijackings. OBL thought that 1 or more planes would have been shot down. He was utterly amazed at Bush sitting in the classroom doing NOTHING!!!!

There you have it. OBL says that Kerry and Bush have no philisophical differences with respect to the Middle East. He expressed no preferences. But he did note that Bush is weak on defense!!!!
