Are we depressed?
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 11:36 PM by The Chronicler
How is the OBL tape playing out? In a REAL world it would hurt Bush. I woke up this morning excited as hell, I'm going to bed nervous.

2. Especially this
"If you're a Democrat and you notice your fellow Democrats dipping into these spasms of fecklessness and weak-kneedism, as I've described above, I strongly encourage to slap them around a few times and tell them to get a hold of themselves. If you're experiencing such spasms, by all means, slap yourself a few times and tell yourself the same thing."

Get it together. If you can't take it, go into hiding.

5. Especially like the following:
Kerry, the candidate, must forward looking in these final days. But his surrogates should be hammering the president for his failure to capture bin Laden at Tora Bora and pressing the factual case that his campaign has tried so hard to deny. On hitting the indisputable failures of the president there should be no let up.

At every turn, toughness and fight has been the subtext of this election. Who has it and who doesn't. The Bush message is that all of the president's mistakes pale in comparison to the fact of his toughness and steely resolve. The conceit of the Kerry campaign and the Democrats is that they're every bit as tough as the president and his party, and more.

Now's the time for them to show it.

3. Me too.....
I was feeling great last night and now as we are getting closer to the election I am getting nervous because I expected that Kerry would be distancing himself from Captain AlQaqa, and that is not happening at all.

26. get a hold of themselves?
HOW CAN ANYONE GET A HOLD OF THEMSELVES WHEN AN ELECTION SO IMPORTANT AND NOW SO CLOSE IS ONLY DAYS AWAY?

We have a criminal, fraud, lier neck and neck in the polls with his challenger and we ae suppose to be clam and collective now? My child's future is on the line right now and I am suppose to get a hold of myself now?

Give me a break!

38. Yep. Or lock yourself in the basement.
"Kerry aides appeared visibly alarmed aboard the candidate's plane as they planned a response to the tape's airing. One prominent Democrat speculated that for swing voters who have not followed the election closely, bin Laden's reappearance may well boost Bush."

Sound good? No? The importance of the election is the reson you (and everyone else) must get ahold of yourself. Josh is dead on the money.

Sleep on it.

7. not really
I suffer from clinical depression so perhaps I'm a strong indicator. :)

Some of this might help Bush...some might hurt him. The one important factor was how he handled the announcement afterward. He looked tired, sick and disoriented...and very unPresidential. Kerry looked formidable in his reply.

The only way George is winning this is if he steals it.

8. Why be depressed? Kerry will win.
Bin Laden just proves Kerry's point: Bush "outsourced" the job of capturing him, and we know that outsourced jobs are never performed quite as well as they would have been by their original occupants.

Additionally, his taunting the pResident about reading My Pet Goat while NYC burned makes Bush look extremely weak, inept and not very Presidential.

39. OBL was derisive about Bush
OBL was derisive about Bush and, no matter how much people want to rally around the flag, that will hurt Bush's standing. No one wants a president who is an object of ridicule.

Give this a day or two to sink in. Fear will turn to anger and the anger will be directed at Bush.

I don't think Kerry should lie low on this. I think he should at least have his surrogates slugging hard at Bush for letting OBL surivive for three years and come back rested and tanned.

Well, I'm not. I called 300 voters in my home town tonight. Guess how
many mentioned the tape at all? NONE. ZERO. Guess how many said they had already or were going to vote for Kerry? NINETY. That's pretty good, considering 158 of the 300 weren't home. That's 90 out of 142 that I got hold of. Some were just not free with their info. I finished each call with "We hope we can count on your support for the Democrats." Some just gave a noncommital "okay".

9. No difference
Kerry supporters see it as bad for Bush
Bush supporters see it as bad for Kerry
Undecideds note that bin Laden doesn't endorse/condemn anyone's presidency.

Sounds like a non-issue to me.

The September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and complete intelligence failure still rests on george w. bush's head.

The end. his head. his failure.

September 11th is still george w. bush's FAILURE.

36. A poll showing results of the OBL tape? Who gives a Bush?
Get real. First, the tape happened too late for any meaningful effect (which is really too bad, because given enough time it would have done significant harm to Bush's tough guy facade--people remember that he said he doesn't really care much about OBL any more).

Second, ignore the goddamn polls. Unless you are digging in deep and know the underlying methodology of the poll, it is just a number, without significance.

Third, nothing has changed since this morning. Kerry was on his way to a landslide at 8 a.m. and at noon. He is on his way to a landslide now, and he will be tomorrow. Tuesday is going to be a glorious day.

Now pick yourself up and quit yer blubbering. :spank:
