...But the Defense Department said it was not clear whether those munitions had anything to do with the nearly 380 tons of high explosives that the Iraqi government and the International Atomic Energy Agency have said are missing from the complex.

Soon afterward, however, Vice President Dick Cheney, speaking at a campaign stop in Dimondale, Mich., cited the Army officer's comments, at a Pentagon news conference, as evidence that some of the missing explosives had been demolished.

"They seized and destroyed some 250 tons of ammunition,'' Mr. Cheney said, "which included in that amount some significant portions of the explosives in question.''

At the news conference, the demolition expert, Maj. Austin Pearson, and the Pentagon spokesman, Lawrence Di Rita, were both asked repeatedly whether the material the unit destroyed was the same as that reported missing. They both said they did not know.

The poor grunt HAD to say that he didn't know. He couldn't very well tell the truth in front of all of the brass. "I don't know" is the same as "We know we f***ed up real bad."

The Pentagon person standing to his right said (when he was asked if he could be sure about something?) "you don't know" to which the grunt turned to his right and then parroted: "I don't know". Wow, I guess they think we can't hear either?

6. Was actually very impressed with the Major.

He did his job well in Iraq given his direction, training & resources. He stood up in front of all the reporters at the Pentagon and spoke honestly.

Not his fault that the highest levels of command didn't plan, train, and fully resource what was needed to secure ALL the munitions in ALL the bunkers in Iraq. Not his fault the Commander in Chief is once again pointing fingers at the Majors.

5. Ammunition versus explosives

Any DICK in the military knows the difference between ammunition and explosives. The civilian witless dicks will equate them. Lovely 'truthful' lying.

You can destroy many types of ammunition by crushing and it will not 'go off', while rendering it useless for loading a weapon.

You CANNOT do this with explosives, generally. Explosive materials as used IN ammunition.

I doubt that they loaded 380 tons of HE into munitions and then destroyed them as ammunition!

He doesn't fool anyone except the hand picked audience. The whole world knows he's lying but it doesn't phase him My guess is that he is trying to hold on to as much of the base as he can.

For people who supposedly follow Christ, repubs are the biggest group of hypocrites you could possibly come up with! Either that or I didn't read all of the gospels. I surely missed the part where Jesus said it was OK to mislead people as long as you held on to power.
