Anecdotal Waiter Story
So this morning I was having breakfast at a resturant in South Tulsa. Buckle of the Bible Belt. Freeper Central. Less than a mile from Oral Roberts University.

I wasn't quite ready when the waiter came to take our order and I said so. He responded by complementing my decision making skills and pointing to the Kerry dog tag that I was wearing. We had a good laugh and chit chatted back and forth several times about the election. Seems we both have secured the same beverage of choice in anticipation of watching the election returns. He noted how many young new voters that he knew who were all going to be very certain to vote for Kerry. There was a sense of urgency in his voice.

I really can't imagine Kerry taking JOklahoma. But if this young man was at all representative of the newly registered voters among his age group then I think the shrub is indeed going down - and going down hard. Warms the cockles of my heart.

1. My Kerry dogtag ALWAYS gets a response from new voters...
.. in a positive way! They all tell me how excited they are to vote for the first time, and for Kerry!

2. I do not think Kerry will take Oklahoma, but..
....I think it is possible for the percentage of Kerry votes in states like Oklahoma and Texas to be higher than anticipated (and an obvious embarrassment for bush).

What part of Tulsa are you in (is it called 'South Tulsa' or another name)? My in-laws lived around Owasso a few years ago...

Thanks for the positive story.

3. We got out the early vote.
Now we can only hope that the new voters want to boot Bush.

5. South Tulsa
is the south part of town. It is the richer, newer, more conservative part of Tulsa. Home to Oral Roberts University and to a fundamentalist church that boasts well over 10,000 members. North Tulsa is the oler, poorer part of town. Downtown is just wouth of north Tulsa. Mid town Tulsa is just south of downtown and is the older part of town that has become quite trendy. South Tulsa is south of mid-town. Using strictly north south descriptive terms.

Owasso is nice - and growing.

What part of Texas are you in? I have several extended family members in northeast Texas. I was recruited to a position here in Tulsa from Dallas. And then laid-off along with about 30% of my co-workers nearly a year later. Still a jobless schmuck.

4. Grocery store story
I just went to Albertson's wearing my "John Kerry Bringing complete sentences back to the White House." (www.seeyageorge.com) Now this is TX and surprisingly nobody has given me any grief yet, but I'm always steeled for it, just in case. A young, clean cut man was walking toward me and I could see he was eyeing the shirt. I figured he was a Republican for sure so I just set my jaw and went past. I heard a tentative "Ma'am?" I thought, OK, I'm about to get dissed, but at least he sounds polite. So I turned around and he said, "Thank you very much."

:wow:

I recovered enough to say thank you back and then I gave him my last Bring Back Complete Sentences button. Thinking back on it, I'm even wondering if he was military. I noticed his shirt had a Pepsi logo like he was a delivery man for them, but he could be in the reserves.
