Just got back from the Kerry rally in Appleton, WI |
|
It was awesome! My second Kerry rally in as many weeks in Appleton, WI and I live in Chicago! I was planning on coming up this weekend because the city of Appleton screwed up my absentee ballot (I go to school in Chicago but I'm still a dependent of my parents for you freepers looking to invalidate my vote), so I said, screw it, I'm coming home to make sure I get the ballot on time and my vote gets counted. To my luck, Kerry planned a stop for this morning. It was a great speech. He was really energized and Senator Kohl and Governor Doyle were both there with Kerry. Kerry talked about how America only has 3% of the world's oil and we need to invent our way out of this. We have Americans like John Glenn who pioneered into space. We need new American pioneers to get us on the right track. He promised to set forth a plan that would make us have all but 20% of our energy come from renewable energy sources by 2020. Kerry then went canvassing with a large group of canvassers. I wanted to canvass to, but I couldn't do it the whole time because of voting. I thought it was awesome that Kerry was going to hit some homes of undecideds. If he ends up winning Wisconsin by 3 votes, the canvassing will have made the difference.
It was well attended for being a Saturday morning, a storm coming, and Kerry having been here two weeks ago (He had a Friday night rally where he got 10,000 people.) After the rally I went to vote. I voted straight ticket Democrat and wrote in my family members for some positions that Democrats weren't running for. My mom voted as well. As far as I know, we are winning Wisconsin 2-0.
Here's the critical part for Wisconsin DUers, but everyone around the country really. Gore won Wisconsin by 4,000 votes in 2000. There are 4,000 wards in Wisconsin. You can win a state by winning one vote at one ward at a time. That should inspire all of us to get out the vote! Every single vote counts. If all the DUers get one extra person to vote between now and Nov. 2nd, we would be in even better shape than we are right now. Kerry's got our back, let's make sure he has ours too!

I convinced my grandmother to vote Kerry- she hates Bush to begin with, but was leaning towards a write-in. Unfortunately I cant vote but I am volunteering for various Democrat stuff :D

2. My daughter also voted basentee from college in MN to WI |
|
so it's 3-0 Kerry in the Badger State.
If the Packers beat the Redskins tomorrow, we are all set for Tuesday. I think Kerry will take the state - no problem. Your analysis on one voter per ward is a great one.
I registered a man to vote on Monday of last week in Wisconsin who is 70 and nevr voted before. When I asked what brought him out for this election, he said "We have got to get this guy out of the White House." It made my day.
Thanks for your report and for all of your effort to come back to Wisconsin both times!

6. My niece will be 18 on 11/2 in WI. |

She is firmly in the Kerry camp and looking forward to making her first presidential ballot on her birthday in a battleground state while registering at the polls on the same day. Thank goodness you can do that in Wisconsin! Happy Birthday D! :toast:
