breaking news: Kerry attacks Bush for not finding Bin Laden
Kerry pounds Bush for failing to kill bin Laden

5 minutes ago U.S. National - AFP

APPLETON, United States (AFP) - Democratic challenger John Kerry (news - web sites) berated President George W. Bush (news - web sites) for failing to destroy Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), a day after the terrorist mastermind roiled the US election campaign with a new videotape.

Kerry, stung by attacks on Friday in which Bush accused him of a "shameful" attempt to reap political gain from the tape, promised he would provide better leadership in the global antiterror campaign.

"As I have said for two years now, when Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda were cornered in the mountains of Tora Bora, it was wrong to outsource the job of capturing them to Afghan warlords who a week earlier were fighting against us," Kerry said in a rally in the battleground state of Wisconsin.

Kerry said Bush should instead have used "the best-trained troops in the world, who wanted to avenge America for what happened in New York and Pennsylvania and in Washington," a reference to the September 11, 2001 attacks.

"It was wrong to divert our forces from Afghanistan (news - web sites) so we could rush to war in Iraq (news - web sites) without a plan to win the peace," said Kerry.

4. Good. polls are indicating
That Bush is dxperienceing a drop since the release of the bin Laden tapes. First it reminded everyone bin Laden is still out there, threatening another attack. Second it reminds people that he is out there becasue Bush didnt capture him when the opportunity presented itself.

Bush might not have captured bin Laden at Tora Bora if he used more troops and exerted more effort, but at least the publ;ic would have been confident that he would have exhausetd every effort to do so.

I am surpised that Kerry is not pointing out his statements from before the Iraq invasion. Kerry frequently stated that we should go after Osama Bin Laden and Ayman Al Zawahiri first, and once they eere eliminated, then worry about Saddam Hussein. Kerry never said he was unwilling to deal with Hussein, but that priorities placed Al Qaeda and Bin Laden first.

9. It's awfully subjective to say Kerry is "stung" -
That's some BS reporting. Bush WISHES he could get to Kerry but he cannot. He has nothing to stand on. He LET BIN LADEN GET AWAY AND THEN HE SAID IT DIDN'T MATTER.

Awesome that Kerry is hitting back hard on this! Go KERRY!

10. Awesome this is exactly what I wanted him to do
and this exactly what the white house didn't want. Let the American people remember the reason why Bin Laden was able to make that tape. shrub promised him "dead or alive" and what we watched was a man looking to be living a very comfortable lifestyle, dressed in flowing robes, healthy, well groomed. shrub is a total disaster!

And although he could not have said it better nor stronger, this is precisely what SHOULD have been the lead on all the Eleven PM newscasts last night.

24. I said this yesterday
Kerry needed to respond to the "command" or "Strong suggestion" that he not respond for 12 hours due the sensitivity of the contents of the tape. (????????) By the Bush team, of course.

And also that they did not brief him on the tape until later in the afternoon, when Bush had it early am or before, and was already to make his appearance in Ohio.
