troops not being fed?
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 01:13 PM by briang5000
I just came from the MoveOnPac Rally in cleveland.
Several hundred volunteers were entertained by Former Ohio Governor Dick Celeste and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean. Also the band 311 played.

In the middle of the rally a speech was given by a military mother who has a son in Iraq.
She said somebody in the media has been trying to say her story wasn't true. I guess it has been spreading via e-mail. I haven't seen it but would appreciate anyone who has seen it to post it here.

Here's the points she made.
Her 6 foot son lost so much weight eating only the supplied MRE that he now weighs 130 pounds.
She said much of the food we send over from families takes so long to arrive its rat and roach invested. The army throws it out.
they often don't have enough of the MRE to feel full and they have even had to drink dirty water when the clean water is unavailable.

Here's why she's mad. Her son can drive 20 minutes to the Baghdad airport and get food at Burger King. How can Burger King get food but the army can't? Halliburton. They often wont' deliver if they feel it's not safe. This happens often and she says the troops go without fresh water and good food.

She also said that a local Iraqi was allowing the soldiers to make phone calls for 33 cents a minute.

The gov't awarded AT&T a contract to allow the troops to call home, but hey must use AT&T calling cards --- $1.33 a minute. How is this supporting our troops?

Her final point... after many months her son was to come home.... he's not coming home. His stay has been extended. Backdoor draft.

I missed her name and have been unable to locate this chain letter or a news article about her. I believe she is from Ohio. She also said her story was in the news because some Republicans had accused the letter as being a fabrication.

I'd like to find the original letter or news articles about it.

So far my google search hasn't turned up anything.

thanks for your help.

8. Halliburton(KBR) has the contract..................
why don't we ask Dick Cheney? Oh that's right, Democrats can't get anywhere near him. Maybe we can get the media to ask? Oh that's right, the media only licks their ass and prints what they're told to write. I guess those soldiers should just quit their whining!

7. That's insane - I'm overseas and pay 3 cents/min...
I'm in Europe and can use my cell phone to call the states - it's so cheap and the connection is like I'm next door. They're getting hosed.

5. Deliver food via Army, not Hallb'tn: privatize nixed
Main poster.. great post.. future, pls begin with the main point.. not long lead in about the rally.

Superb post!

We need flyers quoting this reality. it is so important.

Army would deliver food when Halliburton wont. Toss Halliburyton, i say.

Big guys need more food .. army regulations to blame here? ie, Bush? Penny pinching Bush?

viz privatizing.. forms cartels, hike prices, cut corners{shabby stuff}, ... AND big item few see.. donate to RW politicos, destroying democracy.

Dude, with a post like that, you should keep the editorial comments to yourself. I mean, just what the fuck are you trying to say here?:

viz privatizing.. forms cartels, hike prices, cut corners{shabby stuff}, ... AND big item few see.. donate to RW politicos, destroying democracy.

Try connecting those thoughts together into a coherent sentence - it sure would help us poor readers.

:-)

11. A conversation with a salesman Friday:
He's a sort of "catch-all" salesman. He has his own small business and we buy a variety of things from him - including Gatorade. He was saying that he has a customer who buys Gatorade to send to his son's unit in Iraq. He was shocked. He said that he figured that the government supplied these sorts of things to our soldiers. His customer has also enlisted the aide of his friends and neighbors to help in the effort.

We buy Gatorade in the dry packages for our guys. We are a construction company. Each package makes 2 1/2 gallons of Gatorade. We buy it in a case of 24 packages. I have a case left over that our guys didn't use this summer. I am going to donate it to this man.
