If the GOP calls you on the phone, keep them on the line
Waste their time. Tell them you're undecided. Ask them why bush* kept reading My Pet Goat. When they say bush* didn't want to alarm the kids, ask "But how does reading a story protect the kids?" or some other Emily Letella ("Nevermind") question. Keep repeating "we-e-e-e-l-l, I don't know. I'm gonna have to think about this"

Then post your stories so the rest of us can laugh about it

5. You could do
what my friend's dad used to when he got a cold caller: - you say "oh hang on, I'll just get my wife/husband, they usually deal with this sort of thing." Then you place the handset on the table and go about your business.

8. I do that one also

Once, I picked the phone back up after about 5 minutes, and I heard the salesguy talking to his apparent supervisor. He was saying "I think we got a potential sale here. Let's send someone over to see him tomorrow if we've got someone in the neighborhood"

I planned a whole series of stupid questions for the saleperson but they never showed.

It was a company selling burglar alarms. I was gonna ask if their equipment was Fen Shui compatible

10. Nice one.
Of course, in this case, if you find they're still on the line after 10 mins, you should pick up and tell them to hang on, your spouse will be with them in a minute. Then rinse and repeat.

7. One called me and I was a real bitch. I couldn't help it
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 01:10 PM by Melodybe
My friend Claire and I were happy disgussing politics and the phone rang.

It was a Bush poller, I immediately told him that Bush was not a good christian, and that if he was christian he should be asshamed of himself.

I asked what are my friends dying for? What are all those Iraqi's dying for? I told him that the bible says that shalt not kill and that anyone who supports this ignorant warmonger has blood on their hands. I told him that he can never wash the blood of the innocent of his hands and he hung up on me.

Then he called back twice and hung up on me both times.

It was great.

Claire and I had a great laugh.

11. I wish a real live one would call me
I'd keep 'em on the phone for a freaking hour letting them think they are convincing me then dropping the hammer on them after I'd kept them on there a LONG ass time.

It's legal, it's smart, it's effective.

Nice? No, but nice isn't in their vocabulary anyway. The screw you, I got mine party.

No all I get are recorded messages from Laura farging boosh.

if shrub will give you some coke in exchange for your vote.

After you've wasted a bunch of the caller's time.

14. Do the same thing with the recorded calls from any Repug candidate
The longer you keep them on the line, the less calls they can dial out. Hanging up immediately only allows the auto dialers to dial the next number in their data bank.

15. my wife fielded a call last night, kept the person , but get this....
my wife asked what policies or platforms bush was running on, and the person DIDN"T KNOW. my wife kept asking all sorts of questions that she couldn't answer. Not hardball questions, softball questions, trying to keep them on the phone.

but get this, finally, the woman made the excuse for not knowing the answers because she was a PAID TELEMARKETER.

at that point, my wife started switching up, and telling her that Bush lies...the woman started arguing and said no, he doesn't. My wife started listing instances of his lies, to which the woman HAD NO ARGUMENTS and claimed ignorance again.

after she was hung up on, we both laughed for quite a while on that!

16. Thats easy to do.
I have done this already. I just kept asking different questions and then I dropped the bomb on the caller. I asked how Bush was going to take care of my family, when you consider that my family is a Gay/Lesbian house hold and since he "Bush" is against my type of family. Sorry Kerry is the man for us.

17. A while back. . . .
Repugs called and my husband handed the phone to me, laughing!

I kept 'em on the phone for 8 or 10 minutes asking questions and investigating how, once I decided, I could help the cause--because I really want to take part in the process, blah, blah, blah.

At the end I said, "I have just one more question for you. . . . Has hell frozen over yet?" "Uh, ma'am. . . . I'm not sure I, uh . . . ." "Because it will have to freeze over solid before I ever vote for that idiot, bush."

I thought my husband would wet his pants laughing! Good, clean, cheap fun!

18. I am a registered Republican, odd
Waste their time. 4 yrs ago I registered with brand X to vote against people in our state's primary election (get the weakest repub candidate on the ballot) and somehow never got off their list. I keep waiting for one of them to call me so I can waste their time, but they haven't. Not even Laura. Dang. Nobody loves me. Anytime the Dems have called, I tell them thanks and hang up fast so they can spend their time on someone who it might count on.

Here even if the Rethugs have given up all hope of winning your vote, you can still get meaningful calls from two center to left parties, the Democrats and the Progressives.

26. We get DOZENS of Bush solicitations by mail and phone each week.
Does anybody think this is money well spent? I'll come home from work and there will be two or three messages on our answering machine and they're all Bush campaign recordings.

People in general have deep disdain for telemarketers, and even less respect for pre-recorded solicitations on the phone. How in the hell are they getting any bang for their buck?

Couple this with all of the Republican flyers that I get in the mail. Can you imagine the social problems that can be addressed if these guys would earmark the money they spend on campaign solicitations on a worthwhile cause?
