John McCain crows: OBL tape is "VERY HELPFUL to the President"
APPLETON, Wis. - Wrapping up a campaign shadowed by war and terrorism, President Bush and Democratic Sen. John Kerry unabashedly sought political advantage Saturday from Osama bin Laden's re-emergence.

"It's very helpful to the president," contended Bush ally Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., although the president didn't mention the menacing new message from bin Laden at his first campaign stops on a four-state, 14-hour swing.....

McCain, who has repeatedly campaigned on Bush's behalf, said the terrorists' videotape "focuses America's attention on the war on terrorism. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but I think it does have an effect," he said.

18. I agree... he's tried to have it both ways for too long...
Same with Arnold, though Maria kept him in line yesterday, I don't think I'll ever be for him again, after that convention speech.

But McCain is a sell out. Must have made some backdoor deal with Junior not to oppose his running for prez next time around.

McCain, Arnold, Colin... man all sell outs.

79. How could any true Democrat ever be for Arnold or McCain
is beyond me. Anyone who has ever seen McCain in action in the Senate would never say he is or ever was in our corner. And amending our Constitution to allow Arnold to become President? I'd never get over it. Think about it, we gave Jeb Bush a reprieve despite what happened in 2000, along with Katherine Harris. The two people in the world who instead should have been punished by their constituents. Now the two most populous states in the nation are run by Repugs - an anchor for Bush on each coast. geez. When will we ever learn. Same thing happened in Maryland. Many Dems voted for a Republican governor (I know because I talked with some who did) just because they didn't "like" their own Lt. Governor, a Kennedy no less, who happened to be a fellow DEMOCRAT. Democrats who voted for these Repugs are the real turncoats.

83. Right! And furthermore...
I hope Kerry is reminding people that three years after Bush promised to bring back OBL "dead or alive", the evil outlaw is still taunting us, still threatening us. Shouldn't that make the public lose confidence in this Bush government? Shouldn't they be wondering why he diverted the "fight against terrorism" away from Bin Laden to Iraq? Yes, I hope Kerry is still, late as it is, trying to wake up the pod people to some basic common sense.

28. THANK You.
Long, bitter fight with a pair of Freeptards over that one. Their position was: (1) he apologized--quietly--to the Clintons for that, so it's all okay now--"...but don't say anything about the Bush kids!!"--and (2) he was a POW, so he can say/do whatever he wants (see also: racial slurs).

If Hillary had just run up to him and flattened his ass on her first day, I would've celebrated in the street.

I wonder if those Freeptards are so proud and forgiving of their little hero today...

I had no idea about that incident. But I'm disgusted enough with him. Supporting B* after the way McCain was treated by him makes me seriously doubt the credibility of his hero status. He has no moral courage. I hope that Kerry stays far away from him. But let him crow about this recent CBSnews.com poll!

With the election days away, the tape of OBL criticizing Bush:

Hurts President Bush:
80.00%
Helps President Bush:
20.00%

21. Past A Certain Point, Sir
The proposition he is a good man becomes indefensible, and to my view that point is passing as we speak.

A good man would be unable to repress disgust that a politician depended on cowardice and hysteria for his political support among the people, and sought to spread precisely those despicable and de-humanizing emotions as widely among the people as he could contrive for his own advantage. A good and courageous andpatriotic man could not do other denounce such an act, and such a politician.

"Courage is the form all virtue must take at the sticking point."

Nobody is forcing McCain to say things he doesn't believe. If he had a scrap of decency left he'd distance himself from Bush instead of willingly letting himself be his bitch. Sorry, I no longer think McCain is a good man, though I did once. He's persuaded me that he's a craven whore and Regime apologist, no better than Frist and DeLay.

Right, I get it. Osama, still alive and looking quite healthy I might add, releases a mocking video threatening the American people with violence, and McWhore says it's helpful to Bush?

52. Well, I think that's a) sick and b) wrong.
There was a thread from the NY Daily News on the front page quoting an unnamed senior GOP official saying "anything that makes people afraid for their personal safety helps Bush."

See, I just don't get how you can say a think like that and not die of shame. So your candidate is going to win only if we can keep the country terrified out of its gourd? Doesn't it...like...BOTHER YOU that you're working for someone who's happy when all the people he's supposed to be serving are miserable?

Anyway, I don't think it's true. The OBL tape made me worry more about my personal safety...but that jsut makes me all the more determined to get that BOZO out of the White House. If you think the threat is WORSE when Bush is in office than when he's not, then a reminder of the threat is only going to increase your support for his opponent.

OK, so the tape reminds America of the war on terror. It also reminds America that Saddam Hussine is NOT the guy who masterminded the 9/11 attacks. THat helps W. how?

Can we have Tuesday now instead? I cannot stand to be held hostage by these bastards for one more fucking day. The President's in better shape when America's in worse shape? You admit this? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

 :argh: :grr:

54. Shut up McCain, you GOP bitch!
I'm so tired of the sainthood of McCain. If he supposedly hates Bush, as his son has reportedly said, then he's a total WHORE for kissing Bush's ass and helping him win. It's disgusting.

ANYONE who uses that tape for POLITICAL gain is a scumbag.

What's Chimp's motivation for actually capturing or killing OBL if he's HELPED him ever since 9/11???

his wife is a drug addict, and besides, he went batshit from his stay at the Hanoi Hilton. At least that's what some people are saying.

73. not quite
"he fathered an illegitimate black child.."

No. He and his wife adopted a child, I think a girl from India who was rather dark skinned. When McStain ran against Bush in S.C. his daughter appeared with him, So Rove had pushpolls done asking the pollees whether it would matter to them if McInsane had fathered an illegitimate child.

And Rove also circulated the rumors that his POW experiences had left him insane, another nasty hit. Of course, seeing him actually campaign for the man who did these things to him publicly does make you wonder if he actually is insane.

That's the source of all this. For all that gets blamed on Rove, he actually did this. And that is probably why McCain lost the nomination to Bush in 2000. After the S.C. defeat, he never could come back because the primaries were so heavily front-loaded on Super-Tuesday and the state GOPs were already locked up for Bush.

That was the humor here. The poster was reminding us of the very things that the Bush/Rove machine whispered back in 2000 to get rid of McCain in the primaries.

92. Sorry
I was being a humorless drone. It should have been more obvious to me.

Still, McCain must be a head case of some kind to actually go campaign for Bush after what Rove did to him in 2000 (lying on a blatant racist pretext about McCain's own daughter). How low do you have to sink to take that and then go campaign for such a person later?

77. McCain used to be someone I had some respect for
But I'm losing that respect. The guy is really doing himself a disservice by selling out in order to help these asshats, especially after the reprehensible, vile attacks Bush used against him four years ago in the primaries. I mean, for shit's sake, Bush even used push-polls to suggest that McCain had an illegitimate black daughter in order to scare off Southern racists -- not mentioning that the child is adopted and is from Bangladesh rather than Africa. In this and other smear-tactics, Bush took a big fat dump all over McCain, and now McCain is rolling over for Bush. McCain should be standing up for himself and saying "the hell if I'll help that jerk," but instead, he has decided to play the prototypical spineless politician. It's a shame, because I know that John McCain is hardly a weak man. I know he could do better than this, but for whatever reason, he has chosen not to.

It's too bad -- four years ago when I wasn't a strong Democrat, I might have even considered voting for the guy (although there was no way I'd EVER have voted for Bush).

Maybe I've just become too biased, but I don't think so. I think that instead, McCain has sold out his best attributes and played himself, becoming just another useless partisan in the process.

How they think a tape showing that OBL is not only still alive ,he is recruting for his cause, is suppose to be a positive thing for bush ? What kind of back ass thinking is this ? Do they believe we are so scared of this guy ,that we are going to say blindly we just better leave things alone , and continue with the faker in office that failed to catch him when he had the chance. If this actually does help bush ,then its official that the American voter has been brain washed and dumbed down. I say kick the loser out that could'nt catch OBL, and give a guy that knows how to chase and catch someone the office !

Is McCain being a shameless media whore here...

or

is McCain speaking with a forked tongue, seeming to praise Bush but planting a poison seed against Bush into the voters' minds?
