Camille Paglia's voting for Kerry---BLECH!
An antifeminist "feminist." An anti-gay lesbian. I didn't have the stomach to click through the link to see just why it is that she is supporting Kerry, because I hate her.

2. Better. Thanks!
He couldn't trick-or-treat tonight, so we rode around and looked at decorations and at other kids trick-or-treating. He was sad until I compromised and knocked on the doors of our friends, and they came out and brought him candy.

:-)

He's playing a video game now. He's not used to being cooped up for this long. :-)

I agree 110%

She almost caused me to cancel my subscription to Salon on more than one occasion. Thank God they fired her before I cancelled.

Anti-gay Lesbian? How did she manage such a stupid political position?

6. She and Christina Hoff Summers are of the same ilk...
She claims that the sexual revolution and feminism has resulted in nothing but "PC-ness."

11. Awful
She criticizes Micheal Moore saying ." I'm sorry, I cannot respect people who deliberately try to fool the public."

Then she praises Hannity and Limbaugh. Dear God.

12. Hers is not a great endorsement
but it definitely shows the real problems Bush has among people who would much rather vote for the Republican.

14. hmm....
Poor Camille. Ill suited to be an icon by either the Left or the Right, saying just enough to make both sides love her or hate her on any given day. She is a ship forever at sea.

She is a lonely voice. But she makes some excellent points about the history of feminism and how it is still sometimes relevant but more often irrelevant to many modern women. I think her analysis of how feminism is dominated by a bunch of old elitist hags is dead-on, that this aging group, like China's geriatric leaders, represents the goals and aspirations of a bygone era. And the way she chews these people up is side-splittingly funny.

I notice a certain prejudice here, an idea by some posters that all gays or all feminists or all of any given class of persons *must* write and speak and vote in lockstep, like the chattel serfs of some medieval aristocrats. But sometimes, people are simply marching to the beat of their own drum.

The resentment expressed at the news she is supporting Kerry surprises me. In some circles, her writing is influential and could swing some votes. As a writer, she enjoys a certain following of readers who take her opinions far more seriously than most of the famous brand-name commentators.

I always thought Salon lost a great asset when they stopped carrying her articles.

15. Wish the PAGLIA Threads Could Be in GD
because the Campaign forum moves like lightning.

Repost from THIS thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1226953

So much to shoot at in PAGLIA, though not worth the time/effort, but sketchily: She compares JK unfavorably to CLINTON in the area of media skills, but goes on to call CLINTON a (clown?---don't want to dig back 6 pages to find what she called him).

She sez JK and the Dems don't show gumption in attacking the Shrubbites, but then she shoots down any of them who DO: McAULIFFE is "a buffoon"; Michael MOORE is a lowlife for making fun of "a sitting president"; FRANKEN is "juvenile".

(Sidebar: Regarding McAULIFFE, not popular around here, I think he has been sharp, aggressive, raised the loot, made good decisions like getting the primaries done early.)

And she ends with claiming to be "the only one" who disbelieved the WMD scam. Uh, no, Doc, there were at least 50,000 just on this site who knew just as much as you.

And, along with the poster who will post the IVINS column on PAGLIA every time PAGLIA comes up, here's my re-post regarding her and the rest of the Classics Department terrors:

NIEZSCHE is one of a group who are often portrayed as strange, impenetrable, and on some weird and original tangent all their own, when the secret that binds ALL of these seeming mavericks ---NIETZSCHE, STRAUSS, PAGLIA, and Victor Davis HANSON (CHEENEE's guru)--- is the CLASSICS Department, the pre-Christian values they are INDIVIDUALLY steeped in ---and wanted to be a part of, literally.

It's not that NIETZSCHE "influenced" the ones after him, it's that EACH of these WENT BACK individually to the Ancients. They want to live by the "strong" pre-Christian values of STRENGH, physical force/domination, PRIDE ("gloating") as opposed to the "weak" values of humility, mercy, turning the other cheek.

And it's NOT that NIEZCHE was a proto-Nazi. Richard WAGNER *was* one and NIETZSCHE broke with him. After he went into his mental helplessness his unintellectual sister took control of his body and dressed him as a prophet, literally, with people visiting to pay obeissance, which would have REPELLED him, and herself courted the proto-Nazis according to her own small understanding of him, or just for her self-interest.

CHEENEE did a little dance right before the Iraq attack, presenting Victor Davis HANSON to the media as his guru. This dude has been laying out the PNAC working plans for public consumption, the two-pronged thing of active war (preemptive/proactive) plus "noble goals" (forcing democracy on others). His role has been to dig up historical examples as precedents for what the PNAC-ers want to do anyway.

16. Here's the Link to the Salon Interview in Question
http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/2004/10/30/paglia/inde...

<snip>
First of all, I think Kerry will be a far better president than he is a campaigner. This is a man with gravitas who is totally prepared to be president. He has national political experience, historical knowledge, and personal contact with the wider world -- unlike Bush. Where he lacks information, Kerry will inform himself -- unlike Bush. I think he will make good appointments -- unlike Bush. And Kerry will repair our alliances: He will win back respect for America abroad. He speaks other languages -- unlike Bush. And Kerry's wife, Teresa, despite her current excessive candor (reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's arrival at the White House), is a truly international personality who speaks many languages and understands world cultures.

Kerry will build bridges again to the outside world. He will be someone whom America can be proud to represent us. In the age of terrorism, we cannot simply withdraw into our fort the way Bush has and imagine all will go well. There are no walls any longer. Our walls are absolutely porous to infiltration by terrorists. Thus we cannot have a world poisoned by anti-Americanism the way it is now, thanks to the clumsiness and arrogance of the Bush administration.

...like she's making the best case for voting for Kerry.

Her endorsement should be welcomed, not spurned as some here have suggested.

Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 10:10 PM by UTUSN
she's so snarky, she loves LIMBO and HANNITY, and I wonder what sway her endorsement has? Who, exactly, plots their life and choices by what PAGLIA says?

As for her "best case"- the two paragraphs the previous poster selected were probably the most favorable in the whole interview. I held my nose and read all six pages and it's a backhanded "endorsement" most of the time.
